Does anyone have a recommendation for an antivirus/antimalware in place of clamxav? Clamxav is now a paid app.

Thanks in advance!

It's still free in the App Store. But I've never seen a need for antivirus on my Macs. Heck there's not much need these days for antivirus on Windows PC for that matter. Common sense computing trumps any automated protection out there.

But that's just my opinion.

ClamXav is no longer free. The version offered through the App Store is the older 2.6.4, which is free, but not up-to-date. You can then update to the newer version 2.8 or higher, which is a paid version. You could call it an in-app purchase, I suppose. If it is important to you to have up-to-date antivirus software (what's the point otherwise :D ), then you will get to pay for ClamXav - or use something else that remains free. (I expect that those remaining free options will also be gone soon)

Avast still offers a free antivirus app. They also sell a non-free flavor that is more feature rich.

Personally, I don't use any antivirus apps on my Mac (I use Avast on my SP3), as I don't think its needed. The risks are low for me and I practice safe computing habits which lowers that risk even further.
