I apologise if this has already been covered, but is anybody else out there getting heartily sick of GRUB 2 playfully re-writing its own parameter files, even when explicitly instructed not to? I am particularly referring to multiple boot entries, pop-up ESP partitions and changed NVRAM boot order. I understand that this behaviour is designed to make the setup self-configuring for ease of use in single disk, single OS computers but I find that it can get horribly confusing in my cMP 5,1 with assorted disks and OSs. I am not an expert and am easily mislead by all the conflicting (i.e. inaccurate) advice on this subject to be found on the interweb.
Accordingly, I am wondering about giving up on distros using GRUB 2 and trying something that doesn't. Open Suse perhaps?
Has anybody else already gone down this path and if so how did you get on? I would be very interested to hear.
