Alternatives to remote desktop

Hi,

I have just convinced my parents to buy a Mac as I was sick of trying to help them with the bugs of windows. They are struggling a bit with the transition so often on the phone. I would like ot be able to see their desktop but don't really want to pay 300 for remote desktop. Are there are any other ways?

The screen sharing is actually the best feature of the app for me. Well, mostly cause I use Adium for the actual chatting...

No, but they do need an iChat or Gmail Talk account.

I use the free version of logmein. Never used anything else.
