Hi,

Recently i'v replaced my old faithful (macbook late 2008, first unibody model) with an 2012 i7 mac mini.

I've ordered 8gb of ram for the mini. But I was thinking, can I use the ram of the mini in the macbook?

I know it's not the "correct" ram. But what is the worst that can happen?

Thanks

Worst that can happen is that it won't work. Which I don't believe it will. The 2012 mini is either 1333MHz or 1600MHz and which the 2008 uni macbook uses only 1066mhz. If it's 1333mhz it might work but again I don't think so. Always worth a try. It's just a few screws.

One stick may work, but the two sticks together probably won't. When booting, you should get nothing, and three beeps. That generally indicates a memory fault. Bad read or bad install of sticks. See if you can eBay them and buy correct ones.

I had a Alu MB 08 that was great. Put 8GB in it also. Still a very capable machine. Plus, they fetch a good value. I was able to get $450 for mine. Fair cosmetic, great internals, new keyboard and trackpad. Put that money down on a new MBA 13". 😉
