Alu. or pc - Mac biased anyway

Windows Vista has built in automatic defragging as well.
I detest. I have used Vista since it came out - to the day - and the defragmenting services, though automatic, simply fails to deliver. It doesn't give you options for weekends/weekdays and doesn't work or wake the system from sleep. So I am forced to choose between power deficiency or lose two hours of my time. Little things like that irked me from Windows Vista two weeks ago. I am glad I did, though I am not completely detached from the Windows world, as we do use them at school.

I don't know about you but my M1330 defrags automatically all the time whenever I leave my computer alone for a minute or two it starts defragging by itself. I have checked every month and the fragmentation remains at 1 using a different program to check.

You never leave you computer for ten minutes and then come back?

EDIT: Oh, and that's a bit overkill. Doing once a moth is the rule-of-thumb. But Vista doesn't make that easy. If the computer is at sleep during that time it simply skips the defragmentation. And if it didn't, then it would interrupt my session at the computer; a double bladed sword.

Edited again for clarification of the word "it."

OK thanks for all the replies.

I have decided to save up and buy the alu.

Cheers Joey.

Good on you. I've just replaced a Dell Inspiron with a MacBook and am glad of the change. And to cater for those Windows moments, I've got a copy of Parallels, which lets me run XP on the MacBook. So I also get access to stuff that is specific to Windows.

You just have to remember that with a PC you'll most likely have less trouble with external displays and you'll also find a better laptop display on most PCs. The display quality is one of the reasons why I decided to skip this generation of Macbooks (don't want a big laptop like the MBP or a crippled one like the MBA).

The best thing about the Apple laptops are the looks, OS and touchpad. The cumbersome display adapter thing sucks, as does the lack of FireWire on the alu Macbook (I'd like to use my FireWire audio interface instead of the poor integrated soundcard).

To me OSX is less worth it now. I'm very happy using Windows 7 on my desktop machine and haven't booted into my OSX Hackintosh for a long time.

I too have Windows 7 and Leopard dual boot on my netbook, and I must say Windows 7 is very impressive. However, in my case, it will not replace my Mac.

Additional to the coolness and virus-free factor, a main advantage of using Mac is INTEGRATION - the computer hardware, the entire OS, iLife (iPhoto, iWeb), iTunes (iPod and iPhone), iCal, mobileme (for integration and sync multiple computer, file sharing and remote access) - all from Apple.

While no integration is 100% seamless, you won't have to deal with multiple vendors for incompatibility.

I figured I would but hey.

I have used windows all my life and am quite unsure about making the transition. But thanks for the advice.

Many windows users have taken the leap, for "change". Some have like the new, while others thought the change was too much and later returned to their beloved Window boxes. You may or may not heard, with those newer Intel based Mac's, they're pretty much a bogg standard PC in a stylish case, with a few refinements. You can definitely run Windows on it and Mac (best of both?) I known users who've brought Mac's for it's aesthetic appeal and just use it to run Windows. At the end of the day, what you buy is entirely up to you.
