I honestly don't get this. I got the AW3 Silver Aluminum and I think it looks nice. Not as nice as the SS, but nice. I really don't think the Space Grey looks any different, meaning if you think the SA looks like a cheap toy, then how does the Space Grey not?Few hours later I'm thinking it looks like a cheap toy.
It's straight aluminum, the space grey is painted. I really don't get why people think the SG looks better. I heard their arguments for it, but I just don't agree. Is the silver an applied finish over the aluminum or is it just straight aluminum?
I agree. The other think I want to say is that I really doubt Apple thinks the SA looks cheap. I'll even say that I bet Apple was blown away at the popularity of the SG when the watch was first released, I'd bet they thought the SA would be the favored one. And if you look at most of the pics on the site, they favor the SA.I might be in the minority here, but I love my silver aluminum sports Apple Watch S3
Because then you maybe wouldn't buy an additional watch band. 😉I don't know why Apple doesn't sell the silver watch with the black band by default, since it is such an obvious choice.
Couldn’t agree with this more. If you wanna investment go to the stock market or look at buying a second property! A smart watch is something to use, buy the one you like best. You don't buy Apple products as an investment, you buy them to use; they are tech, not gold. Every post I see with someone talking about having no resale makes me laugh. It's a damn smartwatch; buy what you want and remember it won't be worth a crap in a few years. This is the tech industry. With that being said, I love my SS AW3. In a few years, I will give it to my son, and buy the next one, that is the cycle. I appreciate the sapphire glass as I don't like looking through scratches, and the fact that it doesn't look like a cheap 5 cent toy.
I couldn’t disagree with you more. It was imperative in my decision on what watch to buy that I got one that worked as a fitness watch and as an every day watch. The SS was the only option I could consider. I agree the price is a bit ridiculous, I bought both my series 0 and more recently my series 2 second hand. I paid less than the cost of a new aluminium one for the SS model each time. Can you list the parts of the Apple Watch sport that are made out of plastic, please?

Exactly why I went for the silver Nike+. SG looks rubbish with a lot of the bands.

Definitely true. It seems many who spring for SS either have money to burn, or won't listen to those of us who have owned both and would not recommend the SS. I'm replacing my SS S0 with a Silver Nike+, which came today but I don't physically have it yet.
Too many people are trying to make the Apple Watch more than it is. I think if you're going for SS, chances are you're using it purely as a functional Watch - in which case you've entirely missed the point and wasted money. Even then, the SS isn't' the best option if you're using it for fitness only.
If you buy Apple Watch with no intention of using Activity, you're going to be sorely disappointed. It just doesn't do much outside of that. The App Store is full of junk.
This is undoubtedly due to the high price tag rather than it being the less desirable watch. A lot of people don’t even understand the difference. Especially that the screen is made of a different material. I have so many people who bought the sport model ask me how i managed to keep mine in immaculate cinduction when there’s are all covered in screen scratches. If it matters I’d say less than 10% of the AW I see out and about are stainless. And this includes the business sector. Obviously looks are subjective, to some degree, but in my experience it doesn’t seem to matter to most that the Watch is aluminum at all.
The aluminum silver looked cheap to me. Stainless spacegrey didn’t look all that different from the aluminum version
Given that Justice Gorsuch was wearing a plastic Garmin 225 while interviewing for his spot on the Supreme Court, I think the notion that an aluminum Apple Watch isn’t appropriate for business or certain social functions is overblown 🙂
Exactly. You shouldn’t really care what others think anyway. Also if you have the confidence and fashion style you can carry off anything.
If you really want people to notice , buy a Rolex or an omega. I’d say 80% of non tech heads can’t even tell the difference between aluminum , stainless , the slight upscale look of black vs space grey etc. it’s an Apple Watch. Period.
Buy the one you like. Buy the one that fits your lifestyle (weight vs looks) and buy the one that fits your budget keeping in mind that this is practically a disposable piece of wearable tech to be replaced in two years NOT an investment.
With all that being said even the basic “cheap” aluminum space grey CAN be dressed up to fit many different looks and occasions. Save the cash on the watch buy nice bands that can be used when you inevitably upgrade.
Here’s my Nike series 2 “dressed up” for a smart casual look. I’ve worn this band with a blazer. I’ve worn a leather cuff with jeans and a Milanese loop with a suit. They all work and if someone else thinks they don’t fit the occasion, we’ll, I don’t really give a ****, it’s my wrist , my watch and I love it. 🙂
People even say the 48mm is too big on my wrist. Perhaps. I tend to keep it a bit looser like a bracelet anyway. Now there’s no going back, I like my band collection too much.
If you have worn an Omega, Rolex, or other high end watch, the SS version just doesn't cut it. The AW is my day to day; my Speedmaster and Seamaster are for special occasions. I mulled over the SS repeatedly, but it didn't feel any different and only looked marginally different than the Aluminum. The final straw was that the Nike version didn't come in SS.

Good job telling everyone what they should like and how they should feel.

[doublepost=1507310833][/doublepost]Fine, if it can't be poshed up a bit, then I'll try and make it look sporty at least.. Maybe grab a nike band? Dark grey perhaps? The light grey it came with was too light for me.
Think is, I have another silver one coming tomorrow (38mm) for the missus' birthday, was going to stick a fuchsia classic buckle strap on it. Thought that would look class, but now I'm thinking it'll look weak.
Probably. I don’t think the stainless Watch isn’t desirable. In fact, I even started my post out mentioning costs. It’s just not worth another $230 for a whole lot of people. This is undoubtedly due to the high price tag rather than it being the less desirable watch. My choice is pretty simple too. Basic aluminum Apple Watch with nice bands. If I do end up splurging it’ll be the white ceramic. That’s pretty unique even compared to a Rolex. I didn’t wear a watxh for over 25 years and now I don’t think could go back to a “dumb” watch even as a piece of jewelry. The Apple Watch is too damn useful. Let’s me keep my phone in my pocket a lot more.
I agree, I ended buying both of mine second hand on eBay as I just couldn't justify the price tag. I think the Apple Watch in general can seem really over priced to people as it doesn't appear to do an awful lot (especially for people who aren't interested in the fitness/health features), but I think once you spend enough time with one you start to see how game changing they really are. I'd really struggle not to have one now.Probably. I don’t think the stainless Watch isn’t desirable. In fact, I even started my post out mentioning costs. So got my aluminium AW today and initially thought it was cool. Few hours later I'm thinking it looks like a cheap toy. I have a black silicon sports band on it at the moment (came with fog grey, but I'm selling that on).
Any band that makes the aluminium silver version posher looking? I have tried a replica black leather band from Amazon today too (did look a bit better). Returning it as it's feels like junk strap, will get a decent leather one instead once I get some colour ideas.
Going through pictures again now it's obvious that the stainless steel version looks like a proper watch. Funny how I didn't pick up on that before. Maybe if I get the right strap on this I'll feel happier with it.
If they offered a SS model for $50 more than the aluminum model it would be a win-win for everyone. People who want SS but aren't willing to pay $200+ more for it would be willing to pay $50 for it, and Apple would still make a killing on the added profit margin.
