Got my silver Nike+ S3 today. Silver definitely looks very nice with the Nike bands. I think some of the regular sport bands can cheapen it, but the Nike bands go perfectly and it ends in a very nice sporty look. Not disappointed at all.

Now just to sell my SS S0. :p

The silver aluminum perhaps is not the most upscale looking, but some could argue the SG and SB are dull and conservative.

It's all about personal choice and it helps if you have the fashion sense to make it work for you.

As far as resale, it's only natural to consider given Apple's reputation. From MacBooks to iPads and iPhones, they all hold their value. People have grown accustomed to a decent return, flipping an Apple product after 3 years.

Of course, everyone's financial situation and value system differs. One person may spend their disposable income on travel and vacations...while others happily spend it on Apple products.

Few hours later I'm thinking it looks like a cheap toy.
I honestly don't get this. I got the AW3 Silver Aluminum and I think it looks nice. Not as nice as the SS, but nice. I really don't think the Space Grey looks any different, meaning if you think the SA looks like a cheap toy, then how does the Space Grey not?

Everybody knows it's an Apple Watch and knows what you paid for it.
[doublepost=1507395232][/doublepost]
Is the silver an applied finish over the aluminum or is it just straight aluminum?
It's straight aluminum, the space grey is painted. I really don't get why people think the SG looks better. I heard their arguments for it, but I just don't agree.
[doublepost=1507395727][/doublepost]
I might be in the minority here, but I love my silver aluminum sports Apple Watch S3
I agree. The other think I want to say is that I really doubt Apple thinks the SA looks cheap. I'll even say that I bet Apple was blown away at the popularity of the SG when the watch was first released, I'd bet they thought the SA would be the favored one. And if you look at most of the pics on the site, they favor the SA.

For me the aluminium models are fitness watches. Something I’d wear to the gym or on a run but not as part of my every day life such as to work or out in the evening. That’s why I went with the stainless steel. You can actually pair it with a nice strap and feel like you’re wearing a decent watch and not a fitness accessory.
[doublepost=1507399290][/doublepost]
You don't buy Apple products as an investment, you buy them to use; they are tech, not gold. Every post I see with someone talking about having no resale makes me laugh. It's a damn smartwatch; buy what you want and remember it won't be worth a crap in a few years. This is the tech industry. With that being said, I love my SS AW3. In a few years, I will give it to my son, and buy the next one, that is the cycle. I appreciate the sapphire glass as I don't like looking through scratches, and the fact that it doesn't look like a cheap 5 cent toy.
Couldn’t agree with this more. If you wanna investment go to the stock market or look at buying a second property! A smart watch is something to use, buy the one you like best.

Can you list the parts of the Apple Watch sport that are made out of plastic, please?
[doublepost=1507318302][/doublepost]

Exactly why I went for the silver Nike+. SG looks rubbish with a lot of the bands.
[doublepost=1507318476][/doublepost]

Definitely true. It seems many who spring for SS either have money to burn, or won't listen to those of us who have owned both and would not recommend the SS. I'm replacing my SS S0 with a Silver Nike+, which came today but I don't physically have it yet.

Too many people are trying to make the Apple Watch more than it is. I think if you're going for SS, chances are you're using it purely as a functional Watch - in which case you've entirely missed the point and wasted money. Even then, the SS isn't' the best option if you're using it for fitness only.

If you buy Apple Watch with no intention of using Activity, you're going to be sorely disappointed. It just doesn't do much outside of that. The App Store is full of junk.
I couldn’t disagree with you more. It was imperative in my decision on what watch to buy that I got one that worked as a fitness watch and as an every day watch. The SS was the only option I could consider. I agree the price is a bit ridiculous, I bought both my series 0 and more recently my series 2 second hand. I paid less than the cost of a new aluminium one for the SS model each time.
I can pair the SS with a nicer leather strap and wear it to the office or out for dinner and feel like it matches my outfit and looks tasteful. I wouldn’t wear the aluminium one in either of those scenarios.
I also find the SS is the most versatile in that it looks good with almost any band you pair it with as you don’t have to colour match.
Having said that I don’t think I’d ever justify the RRP price for a brand new one. It’s the only Apple product like I’ve waited for and got second hand at a price I feel reflects the use of the product.

Eh. To each their own. I think it looks fine. I think the stainless looks nicer but not worth the $230 premium for me. If it was $100 I’d consider it. I use a Milanese link band (third party) that I think looks great.

At the end of the day your opinion is what matters. If you hate it, nothing anyone tells you here will change that. Return it and spend the money on something that will make you happy. To me the Watch (that will inevitably be worth 25% of what you paid for it within two years) isn’t worth dumping the extra $200+ into it.

If it matters I’d say less than 10% of the AW I see out and about are stainless. And this includes the business sector. Obviously looks are subjective, to some degree, but in my experience it doesn’t seem to matter to most that the Watch is aluminum at all.

There are body and screen protector watch covers that mostly cover the watches sides. I had one on my old space gray series 0 to make it look like a stainless steel space black. I didn’t like it after a while cuz I don’t like cases on my devices but they can give a watch a new look. I got mine off Amazon but eBay and other sides have them... even Walmart has them. just sayin.

Having bought a stainless steel watch, my old gold aluminum watch does look pretty cheap now. But that was kinda the point of it - I bought an aluminum watch first to see if I would even like the Apple Watch. Once I knew that I really loved the watch, I decided to upgrade to a more stylish version.

This is undoubtedly due to the high price tag rather than it being the less desirable watch. A lot of people don’t even understand the difference. Especially that the screen is made of a different material. I have so many people who bought the sport model ask me how i managed to keep mine in immaculate cinduction when there’s are all covered in screen scratches.

Given that Justice Gorsuch was wearing a plastic Garmin 225 while interviewing for his spot on the Supreme Court, I think the notion that an aluminum Apple Watch isn’t appropriate for business or certain social functions is overblown :)

Exactly. You shouldn’t really care what others think anyway. Also if you have the confidence and fashion style you can carry off anything.

If you really want people to notice , buy a Rolex or an omega. I’d say 80% of non tech heads can’t even tell the difference between aluminum , stainless , the slight upscale look of black vs space grey etc. it’s an Apple Watch. Period.

Buy the one you like. Buy the one that fits your lifestyle (weight vs looks) and buy the one that fits your budget keeping in mind that this is practically a disposable piece of wearable tech to be replaced in two years NOT an investment.

With all that being said even the basic “cheap” aluminum space grey CAN be dressed up to fit many different looks and occasions. Save the cash on the watch buy nice bands that can be used when you inevitably upgrade.

Here’s my Nike series 2 “dressed up” for a smart casual look. I’ve worn this band with a blazer. I’ve worn a leather cuff with jeans and a Milanese loop with a suit. They all work and if someone else thinks they don’t fit the occasion, we’ll, I don’t really give a ****, it’s my wrist , my watch and I love it. :)

People even say the 48mm is too big on my wrist. Perhaps. I tend to keep it a bit looser like a bracelet anyway. Now there’s no going back, I like my band collection too much.

If you have worn an Omega, Rolex, or other high end watch, the SS version just doesn't cut it. The AW is my day to day; my Speedmaster and Seamaster are for special occasions. I mulled over the SS repeatedly, but it didn't feel any different and only looked marginally different than the Aluminum. The final straw was that the Nike version didn't come in SS.

My choice is pretty simple too. Basic aluminum Apple Watch with nice bands. If I do end up splurging it’ll be the white ceramic. That’s pretty unique even compared to a Rolex. I didn’t wear a watxh for over 25 years and now I don’t think could go back to a “dumb” watch even as a piece of jewelry. The Apple Watch is too damn useful. Let’s me keep my phone in my pocket a lot more.

Pic of toy watch as requested

[doublepost=1507310833][/doublepost]Fine, if it can't be poshed up a bit, then I'll try and make it look sporty at least.. Maybe grab a nike band? Dark grey perhaps? The light grey it came with was too light for me.

Think is, I have another silver one coming tomorrow (38mm) for the missus' birthday, was going to stick a fuchsia classic buckle strap on it. Thought that would look class, but now I'm thinking it'll look weak.

Seeing this picture I don't think it looks like a cheap toy. I used that combination on my S0 watch for months and I still like it.

Remember, you are waring the watch, the watch is not wearing you. You are the only one who can make it look posh with your whole appearance, which your whole outfit. You can put the most expensive Hermes band on that watch but can still manage to make the watch look like cheap toy as you say.

Probably. I don’t think the stainless Watch isn’t desirable. In fact, I even started my post out mentioning costs. It’s just not worth another $230 for a whole lot of people.

The sad thing is that the amount of stainless steel that is actually used can't cost them more than a few dollars. They took a gamble when they released the first Apple Watch that they could sucker people into paying hundreds more for a stainless steel model and over $1000 for a gold model. But the watch is not a piece of jewelry that can last forever; the tech inside becomes outdated in 1-2 years.

The only way their pricing could work is if they were willing to let customers trade in their expensive SS or gold watches for a reasonable upgrade fee.

So they realized that the gold was a no-go and discontinued it altogether, but there's still a demand for SS. But they're not willing to admit that they overcharged for it initially, so they've painted themselves into a corner where they have to continue to stubbornly overcharge for it.

If they offered a SS model for $50 more than the aluminum model it would be a win-win for everyone. People who want SS but aren't willing to pay $200+ more for it would be willing to pay $50 for it, and Apple would still make a killing on the added profit margin.

I had the SS S0 and originally bought the SS S3 but ended up returning it and now I have SG S3 Nike+, I really loved my SS S0 but I wasn't getting £200+ extra pleasure from from SS S3.

I agree the sport silver model looks very cheap.

I agree, I ended buying both of mine second hand on eBay as I just couldn't justify the price tag. I think the Apple Watch in general can seem really over priced to people as it doesn't appear to do an awful lot (especially for people who aren't interested in the fitness/health features), but I think once you spend enough time with one you start to see how game changing they really are. I'd really struggle not to have one now.

I haven't once used the fitness/health features. It's still indispensable. Can't imagine how useful it'll become once I actually figure out how to use the workout things. Even if it's "JUST' a notification center it saves me so much time and allows me to keep a relatively expensive phone in my pocket. Add ipod, phone, weather and calendar to the mix and it's utility goes through the roof.

One thing people don't mention is safety. I travel a LOT and where I am right now, a 7 plus is crazy expensive. Why pick a pocket when these days you can drive up on a motorcycle and the pillion rider just grabs an expensive smartphone as you're talking on it, checking WhatsApp or calling an uber? With the watch, the phone just stays away. (I do have find my iPhone etc and it's useless to anyone else but the thieves don't know that and I'm still out USD 1250 (that's what my 128 GB 7 plus cost in Feb :-0 )

So got my aluminium AW today and initially thought it was cool. Few hours later I'm thinking it looks like a cheap toy. I have a black silicon sports band on it at the moment (came with fog grey, but I'm selling that on).

Any band that makes the aluminium silver version posher looking? I have tried a replica black leather band from Amazon today too (did look a bit better). Returning it as it's feels like junk strap, will get a decent leather one instead once I get some colour ideas.

Going through pictures again now it's obvious that the stainless steel version looks like a proper watch. Funny how I didn't pick up on that before. Maybe if I get the right strap on this I'll feel happier with it.

No way Silver Aluminum AW looks amazing. After using almost all colored watches since 2015 i am now settled on Silver Aluminum AW. Will add pictures when i got more time. Try White Woven Nylon Band or Milanese Loop. I don’t like sports bands at all.

While the SS is unquestionably a nicely made piece of tech, it's material (316L steel) is so commonly used and milled that it really doesn't justify that kind of markup.

But worse are the cost of bands.
Here in Canada, those new Sport Loop bands are $69! For essentially a piece of velcro?

But hey, this is Apple we're talking about. Bump up your RAM or SSD, nothing is inexpensive.
