Stainless steel series 0 here with a scratched sapphire screen. No idea how I got it as well.
Damn, what did you do? Rub a diamond on it? Theres video on youtube of a guy trying to scratch a original AW screen with a cutoff wheel and failed.

I am thinking this avenue as well especially with the "larger" upgrade this year with hardware and some of the internals that I feel next year will be a very small update.

Meaning it may be a good idea for a 2-3 year SS run and now you have me doubting all my beliefs. Thanks ;)

I have a series 0 SS.. Yeah, it was expensive, I think 699 when I purchased it, but, the screen has zero scratches and it's been lovely wearing it formally as well as the gym.

3.5 years later, I'm not too concerned with what I spent - I can resell it for maybe 75$.

I figure if I grab a new one I'll keep it another 3 years before upgrade - I really just want an excellent fitness tracker and mine is starting to get long in the tooth with responsiveness.

Had my S3 Nike since February, not one scratch but I’m pretty careful with it.

Too bad the resell value plumits by 50% or more even after the first year of each SS AW series. Too me not really worth the extra money for a "disposable" gadget, which i will upgrade a year or max 2 years later.

Obviously your bank account is more of an issue than it is with SS owners

I personally like the weight better on the aluminum but would love the polish SS look. A space grey aluminum with a sapphire crystal would be a good compromise :)

SS for series 4
Have a S2 in Black stainless and case is perfect screen too
But this time I’m going for a plain stainless

Driving me nuts what version to get I think I’m settled on SG Aluminum. My main reason is the weight, I really notice the SS weight so I want something lighter and having own SBSS I noticed SG Aluminum looks very close to it. I was thinking of going with plain SS but it looks faded over time and seems too easy to get scratch it’s too high maintenance. Of course $300+ price difference this time around makes things harder to swallow.

Considering silver aluminum just to change it up form current SB aluminum... but concerned about silver aluminum looking like plastic... idk yet

Had an aluminum S0 and was really careful with it yet it got a lot of little scratches on the glass and a few on the body. I've had the S2 SS since they launched and it still looks flawless and it's taken some mild abuse (banged it on a doorknob just the other day). That said, as someone mentioned they don't seem to hold their value very well so I'm going for the aluminum again...if it gets some marks on it, screw it. The resale value is crap anyway. Like selling back textbooks in college. $150 book, we'll give you $20 for it.

Cellular wasn’t introduced until series 3 so of course series 0, 1, and 2 had no cellular options in stainless steel. The no cellular option was the only option.
I wanted to post a reply similar to yours, but I figured it was not worth it.

My thought exactly.
I had the S0 in SS and it was flawless when I sold it to buy the S2 in SS (black). The S0 sold for like $160.
Selling my S2 and hoping for maybe $220.
The $200 premium isn’t worth it to me anymore so ordered S4 in SG Aluminum.

Your right, the stainless is not much worth more value over the aluminum long-term. The problem I have with the aluminum model, is simply just feels too cheap to me. Not that it’s not a quality watch made by Apple, because it is, I just like the weight of the stainless better, so if one can justify the price of the aesthetics, it certainly can be worth it.

how bad is the ION glass on aluminum. Does it scratch that easily?
I have a Series 2 Alu Space Grey and no scratches on the casing or the glass and i wear the watch everyday. I think it all depends on how you look after the watch if you are going to be rough with it i am sure the SS will also show wear signs in that aspect.

My series 0 SS got one small scratch on screen. My theory was that I scratched it somehow with my diamond wedding band, since that is about the only thing that I own that is hard enough to do it.

My series 2 aluminum only had one small scratch on the screen as well, even though I rarely wore a screen protector.

Based on that experience , I went with the aluminum for my series 3. A week after getting it, I had a large, deep scratch in the screen. I used screen savers after that, but they are kind of a pain to install properly. I took mine off last month, and just decided to deal with it since I knew the upgrade was coming, and it has gotten multiple small scratches since then.

I am looking forward to the sapphire screen, and will be more careful with my wedding band.

Yeah, the AW really does not hold its value at all, especially the SS ones. I'm holding onto my SS AW2 for a few months and plan to pick up an AW4 on swappa when they are nice and cheap. My prediction in 3 months I'll get a 44mm SS one for $400-500, possibly with accessories and/or applecare.

With the poor resale value the AW would greatly benefit from a 24 month payment plan with the option to trade in every year, like the iphones. I'd definitely do that to have a new one every year.

Any massive difference from aluminum gps to aluminum cellular model?
All models now have ceramic back?

I was planning to get the stainless steel larger size but -- that price. With Applecare and tax I'm looking at almost $880

I mean I’m an Apple fanboy and all but you can buy a really really really nice watch that looks a lot better for $880 and you don’t need a screen protector.
