:apple:Anyone remember this? Now don't tell me to go read the other threads, because I have been through way over 50 pages over threads and comments looking to see what people are still saying about this, but no one is talking about this anymore. I'm just wondering why no one is believing 9to5mac anymore, they have been correct about previous rumors, why isn't anyone believing this one and believing apple insider that is is just going to be a minor update?
I just would like everyone’s opinions because I want to update, but since the macbook is due for an update soon, I'm waiting. But I am hoping for aluminum enclosures.:apple:

    Yes, I know... BUT!

Yes, I remember that thread. But my question was, why are they more reliable than 9to5mac? 9to5mac reported "seeing the new enclosures." And they have previously been correct, so then appleinsider comes out with a new rumors, and macrumors even says that "These expectations don't entirely correlate with September rumors of a slim aluminum MacBook arriving "soon". So, I'm just wondering why everyone is believing appleinsider over 9to5mac.:apple:

    It's still a rumor?

Should I trust one site over another or wait until its released?

Just people not wanting to get their hopes up? I know I'm definitely expecting a minor upgrade. But that is because if the upgrade is only a minor one, then I won't be at all disappointed. If it turns out to be a new alu design... well thats just a bonus (or maybe not seeing as I still dont like the MBP design). But either way I'm not believing one source over another. They all seem to say that an update is coming soon, so let's just wait and see. ;)

    Mac Event?

Hey i'm new to the world of mac but i love it. I've owned 4 ipods and am about to buy my first macbook. Ive been reading about these "revamped macbooks" and am not entirely convinced. I know if the new enclosures were going ahead apple would announce some sought of mac event like they always do with the release of some new mode.

I used to believe there would be new aluminium macbooks before christmas, but I'm not so sure any more.

Main reason for that is this.

:apple: has chosen to use current MacBook in that picture. would they do it just to obscure things? If they were replacing Macbook with a new design, why would they use old MacBooks in Leopard promotion.

I agree with your point, but also present this counter-point: Even if they were replacing them, it is still Apple's best-selling computer. It's no surprise they'd use them.

I don't think the MacBook has a redesign coming. I think this new ultraportable will be classified as a MacBook Pro.

I dont believe Apple would show you a new MB in that picture regardless. They're not going to give away a new aluminum based MB blatantly in a Leopard picture. Also, whats to say they wouldn't just change the picture the day they announce new MB's? I mean... I could be wrong but... I think they have the technology to do that. Just sayin..... ;)

All I know is that I won't waste my money on a non Santa Rosa Macbook but will buy some laptop with decent hardware before the end of the year (not necessarily apple).

Haven't people been saying this ... forever? Replace Santa Rosa with [x] and I'm sure there have been people waiting four years to buy a MacBook.

    So...
is this a redesign of the current line or something in addition to?
how is the price point going to change?
Is the release date or just the announcement?

I don't expect answers... just thinking outloud :)

I am definitely waiting for the 26th now. I was going to buy a Macbook this week, but another week isnt going to hurt that much even though I need a computer.

If they brought one out with a dedicated GPU i would probably go for it and sell my current notebook. I am using a Windows PC notebook right now and i don't mind Vista but it would be better to have both operating systems for me.

I'm waiting for the 26th as well, as i've said before i honestly believe that Apple will release a Macbook on Leopard day. Why 1.) We have had several rumors of an update so far. 2.) Leopard has been let loose (specs/features wise) so it won't get heavily buried by the market hype around that 3.) On Leopard actual release day that have a pretty much guaranteed mass influx into their stores which they could convert into Macbook sales. 4.) THe new Macbooks could have some Leopard specific features such as updated graphics (believe this was a point maybe bf Eidorian in another thread, however if i am misattributing it sorry to both involved)

I guess I would still buy a MBP no matter what is announced the 26th. Unless it's a 13 incher with 1680x1050 res and an nVidia 8600gtm GPU :)

SuperDrives across the entire line would mean I would be quite happy with the low-end model. :p

You could always call apple, say your online about to buy a macbook, but are reading articles about these "new macbooks." Ask them if they are going to update them or not. I'm in New Zealand and if you buy a product and it gets updated within 30 days you are covered by consumer laws which cover you for situations like this. Claim you are not part of any press or any web based rumor site. It happened with my ipod.
