Don’t use it when I use only AW, don’t use it for sure now that I’m double wristing a mechanical watch with AW.
 
I turned AOD off on my series 5 after the battery health plummeted in the first year of use. Raise to wake is fine for me and don’t notice the difference. If the OP find it distracting, just disable it.
 
Wasn't the tag line for the Apple Watch that is is the most personal device Apple has ever made. This is why we can have it on and off. Some here like AOD (personally I do), some don't :)

It is Apple's most personal device and you set it up like you like it :)
 
In the olden days, the only way I could turn the screen off was with a hammer, so OP - turn the feature off or use a hammer. Guarantee that will work.

Why is having an *option* distracting? I’m not joking about the hammer 🤣 25 years ago my fiancee drove 250 miles to the US from Canada to take a cell phone back and smash it in the store. She was an easily agitatable person.
