I have tried looking for reviews or explanations online, but I have yet to see a proper answer.

I currently have the 13p, the only reason I would upgrade would be for the always-on display. That being said, I totally understand it dims the screen to a low level, but what is shown on the display?

I checked for reviews on google and on youtube, they were either ranting or raving about this feature, but all they ever showed was the screen showing time/date/widgets. Do you see any notifications as well?

TIA

It does show them! Look at one right now that let me know my lunch is here. I have my settings configured so you can't see the contents on notifications unless the phone is unlocked. So I can glance over and see that I have notifications, but not their contents (which is what I want). I thought it was a nice touch that the app icon for the app that generated the notification is in color.

Yes, and this is a point a lot of people are glossing over. I've seen a lot of people say "my Apple Watch already has always on display, so I don't need it on my phone," but there's a big difference... the Apple Watch only shows a red dot on the always on display to indicate that there are notifications, but you have to wake the screen and then swipe down to open the notification shade to see what they are, whereas with the 14 Pros, you can see the full notification from the always on display without having to wake the screen or do anything.
