Always-On of Series 5 really kills the battery as fast as possible. Always-On Gate will become the worst gate ever!?

I’m sure it will be fixed in 6.1...bit yes not great at the moment

I seriously doubt they can do anything. This is like the only real selling point of Series 5, so they have done tones of tests to make sure this is the best they can do already. Compass is like another selling point, do yo use it? LOL.

What a hyperbolic load of crap. “as fast as possible” is sensationalist bull.

WatchOS6.0 has issues with battery life, impacting S5 and prior generation watches.

Different folks are seeing different results.

Folks on 6.1 beta are seeing much better results.

AoD is not the cause

I do use it and won’t switch it off as if I did then it’s a series 4...

People are reporting 6.1 has improved it via beta

I’m on 10 hours standby with 39% left

On my last working day off charge at 7.30am and was dead at 23.00 which included a workout. If that happens each working week I will be ok with it but if it does at say 8pm then that’s not ok

Genuine question, do you know what Gate actually means and how it has no relation to the AOD in the slightest as you’re inferring. Two things that are not mutually exclusive. No snark intended, but you have a poor understanding of how ‘Gate’ is applied in your context.

Could this actually be down to certain apps that are causing battery drain? Yesterday I had my watch on from 6am and put it on charge at around 10:30pm and still had 24% battery left!

I just bought a silver titanium and after a few hours usage I don’t think AOD is such a must have. Maybe it’s because I’m used to the twist to view method I’ve used since my S0. I do love the watch though.

Always-on on its own for me has been fine ... it’s been always-on + wake screen on wrist raise that does it for me.

Once I turn off the latter my watch is in a much better place but I’m hoping 6.1 helps it even more.

I’d like to see better battery life, but I’m currently making it through an 18 hour day with at least 40% battery left - basically beating Apple’s typically conservative battery life estimates by a significant margin. So I’m satisfied with the Series 5 and absolutely loving the always on display.

I don’t see lots of people complaining about their new watches not meeting Apple’s promise of 18-hour battery life either. What I see are people mostly complaining because their Series 5 doesn’t last as long as their previous watch. Understandable, but not entirely reasonable.

Anyway - I hereby declare this whole brouhaha “Hyperbole-Gate”. :p

It wasn’t a must have for me. And I was able to snag an excellent condition SS Series 4 for $350 on Swappa. Coming from a SS Series 2 I am a happy camper!

Why do people feel the need to add gate to every little issue they come across?
At this point, in hopes that it will become a big thing.
Like the iP6+ frame bending.
Antennae gate with the iP4.
The Note 7 "exploding."
LG's Bootloop issues from the G3-G5.

Stuff like that.

Definitely not...AOD!

I turned AOD off and my battery was still Bad.
But now I’m happy with it. It took a few days but it definitely gotten better and I have EVERYTHING ON.

I've been getting through 1 ½ to 2 days consistently with Always-On active. It's really just device to device and a software bug at this point. If anything I'd guess some complications are draining battery more than the AOD is.

My watch was off the charger at approximately 6:24AM. I use it for notifications, and texts here and there. AOD on. Background app refresh off.

It is now 7:44pm. My watch is on 51%. iPhone 11 Pro is on 45%.

Running 6.0.1

Like others said, AOD has nothing to Do with it. I was getting like 10 hours when I first got my S5. I Turned off “wake with wrist raise” and now I get 20 hours with AOD on. Can’t wait till iOS 6.1 so I can turn it back on and get good battery life back.

You are promulgating about a gate that doesn’t exist.
Exactly. The #NothingBurgerGate, or perhaps the #INeedAttentionGate.

Once I quit obsessing over the watch it’s settled in to a pretty regular ~3.5%/hr rate excluding workouts. Same as my S4 did.

This is with AOD on, raise to wake on, all the usual. Only turned off a couple of the new app background refreshes since I don’t use them anyway.
