3 days later and battery draining was crazy. Finally turned off always on screen and it seems to slow down significantly the drainage. Am I the only one seeing the battery draining being an issue? This is my first iPhone I have ever had this issue with. I was always very skeptical reading posts from others in previous iPhone releases, and here I’m now searching for help, resources and informations if I’m the only one.

Hoping to at least get a 75% of the day without plugging charging cable to give it some extra power and take it from the red battery zone.

Never had this issue with 13 pro and was amazed how long the phone lasted throughout the day on the first day and so on.

Found that on Reddit and describes every year the same thing.
Give it a week or so, if then its still draining to much, go back to Apple.
I read also that the battery drain from AOD only is about 17% on a full day.

Dear all ios 16 and iPhone 14 users

Battery drain the first few days on a new phone or OS is higher. Multiple reasons for this:
  • phone is indexing.
  • phone is downloading data from backups
  • apps have not all updated to iOS 16 structure.
  • You are playing with your new phone and testing new features.
Your phone is not defective!
You phone is busy!
Use your phone normally and wait a few more days.
Something you can try to assist is force restarting your phone to clear cached memory.

I'm having the same issue. Way higher battery usage on my 14PM compared to my 13PM. It's definitely not indexing anymore, making backups, any of that. CPU is idling around 3-5%.

But if I used to go to sleep with still 50% battery remaining, now it's down to about 30%. So yes, it could be AOD uses about 17% for a full day. But that's a lot... ending a day with 50% or 30% remaining is quite a difference, especially if you happen to be out and about taking pictures on a day where you use the phone more than on a typical workday sitting inside at the office.

You haven’t had it long enough.

Everyone needs to chill with the battery issue. It’s not an issue. You just got a new phone and it takes a few days to do its indexing. Your phone probably feels warm at times for no reason, too. They’ve been doing this for a long time now. Anytime you do a major iOS update (or get a new phone) it’s going to be a huge hit on your battery. Give it a few days and you’ll see your battery life increase. Google it. iPhone indexing battery drain

I'm very familiar with indexing and how new phones behave. I have a new iPhone every year, and it's the first time I see a noticeable decrease in battery life the first days. iPhone 12PM and 13PM have been stellar from day one. So there is for sure something different going on here. But I will of course observe it over the next days.

I also turned off the Call after severe crash. Supposedly it can lower battery use as well due to all the sensors etc. time will tell. If the iPhone is indexing for so many days and this is first time I see something like this comparing to all the previous iPhones I think it’s not 100% right.

How would you know there’s a noticeable decrease in battery life if you’ve only had it a few days? You’re making the assumption everything, all variables, are the same-they’re not. You need to give it a little time.

In the defense of those worried about battery issues.... uh, I've had almost every iPhone since the 6s and I've never seen drain like this before, especially on a Pro Max. I kept my 13 Pro Max this year but my wife went from her 13PM to a 14PM and:

Granted, second day is better but I can see why people are going WHAAA? lol.

@ OP - Yep, my wife turned on AOD and it has helped a lot.

Had mine since Saturday. Charged up this morning to 100% and a bit of light use. Sent a few text messages and unpaired and re-paired my watch and five hours later it’s still on 100%. AOD is on as well
Mine feels the same. Battery went from 100% to 98% after an hour and 20mins of driving whilst playing music on bluetooth and AOD enabled.

Same. Mine is draining faster than my 13 Pro Max even with 94% capacity on it. Not really using my phone much and all apps have been updated for days now.

Trust me, i know what you mean, and I would tell the same to others complaining to me about the same issue.

But I've had so many iPhones, and this one just behaves very differently than the previous ones during their first days.

Of course I will give it a little time. And I'm optimistic that in the end it will just be a calibration issue. Still, it's striking how different it was from the 13PM during its first days for example.

I had an iPhone 7 with battery issues, but it also ran very hot. When I handed it to the rep in the Apple store he immediately started to get my replacement. If it’s not running very hot I’d just give it some time and keep it plugged in if possible for a few days while it finishes downloads and indexing.

I have my battery as widget and under AOD it doesnt update...if its at 80% when the AOD takes place....even after 30 min of charging will still be on 80% under AOD, if you tap the display it updates.....whats the point of the AOD if information are not updated at every second ?!

The OS isn't allowed to update that quickly for obvious reasons. I believe the range Apple has set is between 5 - 15 minutes, depending on the app.

For me battery life was great the first day with 14 Pro Max, setup as new, so no data transfer Apart from pictures which was done after 2 hours.

Next day moved Apple Watch to new iPhone, also no backup used, and this tanked battery life hard.

First day lost 2% per 3 hours idle with AOD.
Now it‘s 2% per 30 minutes, while the phone is more or less next to the watch, which is worse than my old 12 Pro Max after two years with 95% battery health.

I noticed that Exposure Notifications for Covid would start draining my battery in middle of the night - so I turned it off.

I had so far 21 minutes of screen activity this morning by simple tasks like Facebook Instagram mail and weather app. My battery percentage is already down by 7%.

Likewise. I noticed between 100%-80& the battery drains faster. Afterwards it settles.
