Hello guyz. At WWDC Apple promises that they'll include always-on VPN in iOS 8. Does somebody try it? Does it really work well now? Thank you.

I'd like to go ahead and bump this thread...
Has anyone heard anything about this, yet? Currently, the only way to keep the VPN connection "always on" is to leave the iPhone connected to a laptop/MacBook via USB port or jailbreak/install tweaks like Insomnia and such.

I don't think it works yet. I tried it, and it did stay on for way longer than it used to. But I don't think it's fully active yet.
I have OpenDNS Umbrella and there is now an auto-on profile. It can effectively act as an always on VPN - anytime it detects data it turns on if it is off (i.e. phone loses coverage) and stays on even when in sleep mode. Works well.

My point wasn't that OpenDNS is a replacement for a VPN its that it configures itself via a VPN profile which can be set to auto-on.
So we still have to use a third party app / leave it plugged in via USB.
Hopefully they will figure it out by the time they roll out iOS 8.
