Always On?

Does Always on mean that all faces are always on, or do you have to set them as Always On while other faces will go on only in hand raises?

As I understand it, it's not always on fully. It's on only dimly and you have to lift and/or tap it to get a full display.

It looks like there might be a ‘low intensity’ version of some screens. The large numeral screen seemed to go from the numeral being just an outline to being a solid figure when the screen was ‘raised’. Certainly that would seem to help with battery conservation.

According to the keynote it’s always on just dimmed. Tap or raise and it goes brighter.

I will be interested to see how this works for sports in bright sunshine as I have the sapphire display on my 4 and can only just about see it in very bright conditions.
