I say wait for sandy bridge (if it comes....but their definitely will be a performance boost)

I just dont get people who insist on gaming on laptops? Unless if you are such a game addict you have to do it on the go. I can never go back to gaming on a laptop after having a real graphics card on a desktop with a 22" monitor. Factor in the keyboard/mouse difference and its impossible to match the experience on a laptop unless if you are playing a really dated game.

I can't game at work, and there is no point in gaming at school (misewell use the time for something productive like studying etc), and when at home why not walk to the desktop that has windows etc or better yet power up the xbox360 lol. I guess to each their own

Not everyone can afford both a desktop and a laptop, so gaming on a laptop is not a big deal.

If you travel a lot and want to take some gaming goodness with you.

If you have friends, or adult kids you visit and want to take some gaming goodness with you.

If you don't want some big, loud windows desktop to enjoy gaming goodness.

If you like lots of power in a relatively small package to enjoy your gaming goodness.

If you hate consoles and prefer to have a powerful gaming platform with you to enjoy gaming goodness at all times.

See, plenty of reasons someone might want to have a gaming laptop. Even though macs are not great gaming laptops they do ok on most windows games. Other than the fans cranking up everytime I play, the mac is an adequate windows gaming platform.

I just prefer a bit more windows gaming power than a mac can provide.

Cheers,

The i7 MBP seems to be a pretty great machine all around, especially since you can run Windows 7 and OS X.

If you are playing the waiting game, there will always be a faster machine with better GPU for less money, always. Once you get Sandy Bridge in your MBP, who's to say AMD won't come out with something way better that Apple will use? What about a bump in Sandy Bridge a few months from now and likely lower prices? So much can happen, but the life of an i7 MBP seems to be a well known entity. We all know how rugged and reliable the unibody MBPs are.

I like Alien, and always have, but I don't know exactly how good it is to have a laptop, just in case you may want to use it for something else, to have one with with such a short battery life. Why not then just get a desktop? Is the sheer horsepower of a fully equipped Alien worth the lack of going mobile for any amount of time?

The rolls gets horrid fuel mileage. I can't say that's a good car to compare with. The rolls is super heavy too.

I will definitely enjoy it while I can. During a 10 hour shift at work I can play... 10 hrs long. If I play Warcraft I can bg or farm all day long only needing to go afk here and there. If I need items in raids or dungeons I just eBay gold and pay each group member 200 gold to put me on follow and run me through while I minimize it and open the net and stream live tv (lol!)

I actually get to use my laptop more at work.. When I'm home it's too busy with the nagging significant other, my beautiful daughter or my 2 sports cars eating up all my time. So really that's why i justify spending anything I want on an excellent quality machine that can do what I want and have lasting power if I ever choose to sell.

I'm not always looking to the newer tech. In fact I was happy with my 3.06 c2d and the 128 gb ssd .. Phenomenal machine. I had a speck shell and full zagg shield on it and I even made my own screen shield using zagg film because I hate people touching my screen. I only sold it because someone paid me a little more than I felt it was worth. After a year and a half I sold it for the same price as a current model ( with no ssd though). For the auto gpu switching and faster proc I felt it was worth it. I liked the update for sound in displayport and the MagSafe too. Now that I have no machine I think I'm in a situation where id kick myself if I bought and they released soon after.

I like the alienware but after using Mac osx I'm just blown away. 1 1/2 years long and NOT 1 crash, error or slowdown. The FIRST day I had the alienware I plugged in my iPhone to sync and got like 5 errors in 5 minutes. Windows is just ugly. I loved iPhoto and iMovie... He'll of a time waster they can be when bored I'm not even sure if win7 comes with any programs like that. The alienware is a beefy looking system and the screen isn't bad. The new r3 is rumored to have 6 hrs battery life which isn't bad at all. When I get to work the lappy will sit in 1 spot for the day so it doesn't 'need' to be super portable.

How about the porscha 911 non turbo. Excellent car, crazy following (like Macs), great build quality and good performance.

Over priced performance wise when comparing to say a corvette. Corvette has the power and faster performance but falls short on refinement and build quality.

I'd say that's a good relation to say a pc laptop and a MacBook eh ?

yeah but porche 911 turbos are faster than the majority of regular cars on the street. you could buy a windows machine that has an i7 and put in an ssd that would be faster than the mac.

I say if the mbp is anything it's the honda civic. There's a cult following like you said and people love it. Reliable as hell. It also holds value very well and resells higher than any other used cars (I've heard this from a lot of people).
