I have two 15 pro max iPhones. Blue & black titanium, each with a different number. I take a lot of photos with my iPhone so I wanted to carry two cameras / iPhones. Nothing wrong with wanting two iPhones, open another line if you need to. I like having two iPhones, very convenient for me. I’d buy a third one if I felt it was necessary.

I have a 11 Pro Max as my primary phone and a 6s Plus as my secondary phone. The 6s Plus has it's own line. Originally that was just 2GB of data per month, but T-Mobile boosted that to Unlimited Data while keeping it at the same price ($0).

I also have a 6 Plus, which I bought a couple months back. Near perfect condition with only one ding on the back. Just needed a new battery which I replaced. The point though is that the 6 Plus is fully unlocked. So, I can switch SIMs to it if I want, or get a third line for it.

I use my 6s Plus when I go out walking and my 11 Pro Max for everything else. The 6s Plus is also handy if I feel I'm going to need a phone in situations where a phone could be damaged or stolen. I won't like it, but I'd rather have that happen to my 6s Plus and not my 11 Pro Max.

I’ll respond to this with two things:

1. I don’t presume to know what the habits of OP are, so the projection of what their habits may or may not be is unnecessary.

2. It’s also not necessary to take ideological extremes such as: can’t use electricity for entertainment.

Ideological extremism is not a requirement to build habits that are more ecologically conscious. Being ecologically minded is not an all or nothing characteristic.

Crudely put, ideological extremism results in practical absurdity.

That's not a very good argument IMO.

My point is that your position is fairly extreme. The waste that comes from sending a phone back is absolutely tiny. The phone will be refurbished and sold again. Therefore trying to prevent such an action on moral grounds is fairly extreme.

You'd have a point if you'd have said "you shouldn't fly private because it's very bad for the environment" and I said "oh well you also can't use electricity then". I'd be taking your position to an extreme.

But I think your position is already extreme since it's the probably just as damaging as eating a hamburger.

I currently have the blue Titanium 15 pro. I have another phone sitting around and AT&T is offering the 15 pro for free with trade in. I’m thinking about trading that phone in and getting a Natural Ti since I’ve wanted a different color. It’s free so it would just sit there for 3 years until it’s paid off, and can be used as a backup eventually and I can switch colors if I get bored.

has anyone done this? Am I crazy?
I guess what you have to balance is, will the trade in phone have similar trade in value next year?

If you're worried that it won't, I'd say go for it.

No, you're not crazy. If you want it, do it. Because I'm sure it will make you happy! And as long you don't have money issues, there's nothing bad by buying stuff that makes us happy. I for sure do it.

It’s not “free” what’s in the fine print?
It's probably one of those deals where they hope to keep you locked in for 3 years... The phone is "Free" via statement credits each month for 36 months... Should you cancel the line before the 36 months are up you are liable for the remaining balance on the phone.... So essentially if OP plans to stay with AT&T for 3 years then by all means go for it.

Yep you are on point.

I have a 15 Pro and 12 Mini with a separate line for each. The Mini is used when it is more convenient to carry a small phone. I'm not sure of the value of having 2 of the same phone, but go for what makes you happy and is free for you.

I’d be able to get a regular 15 now since the 12 minis value decreased since the time of the thread. I think I may do cause I’ll enjoy the 15 from what I’m reading. With the weight etc.

I paid outright just to make sure that I could get out from under my cellular contract. If there is a deal and I'm under contract, I can't switch. 2 years I'm ok with - 3 is just too long for me to commit. Also, you usually pay taxes on your first bill, and may choose insurance and such, which could affect your decision.

That’s very true, I forgot about that taxes part. Thanks for the reminder

Is it what you want to do?

For a time I carried two 17" laptops in one bag because I wanted to. Am I crazy? I carry two iPhones out in public from time to time because I want to. And both are personal phones. Am I crazy?

I'm typing this on a 2009 MacPro running Mojave. It's got 8 displays connected to it, including two 30" Aluminum Cinema Displays. Am I crazy?

On my desk in front of me I have nine phones, another phone and an iPad are off to the right. In my immediate area are six computers on and functioning. In the garage are approximately 10+ Macs, two of which are on and functioning. Am I crazy?

My point is, it only matters what you want and what you think. I don't care what others think is crazy or not. I do it because I want to. I don't have to justify anything to anyone other than my wife.

Do what you want, who cares if other people think it's crazy.
Yes its crazy.

Just trade it in and use that new phone and sell the one you already own since that can be sold anytime. There is no point letting the new one sit unopened in the box for years.

only downfall is that my 15 pro is on the iPhone upgrade program. only way would be if I paid it off and sold it and bought a different color, but then I'd be losing money.
