Hello all,

I bought an iPhone 8 last Thursday night. There was a noticeable issue where you could see the unfinished aluminum frame and a small gap. The aluminum frame was bent. A fingernail or business card could fit between the seam where the glass meets the aluminum frame. It looked like you could see a little bit behind the home button. Yesterday Apple acknowledged the problem and swapped it out. The new iPhone has a similar finish issue along the left side, sans there being able to fit something between the seam. It's noticeable in the light.

Is this normal? I never had this problem with the 6 or 7. Seems peculiar to me. Should I try yet again?

Thanks for your help!

That is not normal, get it swapped !

Not normal- get it replaced and inspect the new unit before going through the swap process!

Almost looks like these were refurbished and damaged in the process. Not acceptable.

If a fingernail or business card as you mentioned can fit between the seam, that's not uniform. It wasn't assembled correctly.

Thanks for the help everyone. Apple's customer service is amazing but I don't want to do this forever. And I don't want to overly picky either, but it doesn't feel right.
[doublepost=1511303709][/doublepost]I should add the second one doesn't have gaps but the unfinished frame shows though I'm not sure it should. I thought the glass was supposed to wrap over that part?

You’re not being picky. You’ve been sold damaged goods. It is now a legal obligation for Apple to replace it or refund you, regardless of any emotions.

Maybe ask to check the next one before you leave the store though!

You are the only one that has to live with it if not happy.

Looks fine in the photos, but based on your description, it definitely doesn't sound normal. If the gap is large enough for a credit card or fingernail, it definitely shouldn't have passed QC.

I watched some iPhone 8 review videos on YouTube last night. From that it appears that mine's a minor issue but a QC issue nonetheless. I will try to exchange Saturday (I bet the store will be an absolute zoo on black Friday).
