Here is the context:
1) new job. agency I work for embeds me onsite with client.
2) they issue me a 2018 Dell laptop latitude which looks like it is from 1990. It is thick but has PCI NVEme, USB-C. It is an 8th generation Core I5, 4 cores, 8GB, 256GB SSD. I like the USB-C as I dont have to carry the big Dell proprietary charger.
I’ve been using the USB-C as I have USB-C everything. I also carry my MacBook 2016 15” Pro Touchbar.
So combine, the two, along with my iPad Pro weighs in at 11 lbs.

The second computer is for other work on-the-side off-hours and off scheduled work time. Can’t mix the two.

3) Client onsite wants me to use a Mac. So they requested my company issue a mac. I was hoping for the 12” as I have USB-C everything including two 26800 power banks and 3 Thunderbolt 3 docking stations and two USB-C docks everywhere. So the idea of USB-C and TB3 doesn’t bother me.I was gonna use a Pluggable 60 watt USB dock which has 4K support and charges the previous Dell and my MacBook 15. If I get a Pro, I have an extra Belkin TB3 dock.

4) I need a second computer besides my work issue one. Hence the reason I carried the 15” along w/ Dell. I also have Dell Latittude 7275. Think Surface Pro 12” but it has two Thunderbolt 3 ports only. It works with my MacBook Caldigit Docking stations. Battery life sucks though. 3 hours but since I have portable USB-C battery packs, it doesn’t matter. So I will probably carrry that. MacBook Air (13” for work) weighs 2.96, their Dell 7275 weighs 4 lbs (with keyboard 1.5” without). So the idea is to have a PC and a Mac. But instead of my 15”, I use the Dell 7275 with 13” Air combo. Makes no sense to carry two macintoshes. I would have preferred the 12” as I wouldn’t have to carry any extra chargers, USB-A cables and display port dongles/Thunderbolt 2 gigabit adapters. With USB-C, I have several docks/hubs/power.

Both Dells haVE 1080P displays. I also carry along four or five Samsung T5s, Sandisk Ultras that all have USB-C. So with the new company’s issued Air, I’ll need reverse USB-c dongles. I will also need to carry the mag-safe battery adapter versus using existing USB-C 60 watt power that is available now.

But it is what it is, they wont get me the 13” Pro or a 12” And I wont use my personal 15” for work.
I am just wondering how much pain I will have to deal with knowing the new Sept announcement is around the corner but this is work issued.

It could negatively impact your work flow if the reverse USB-C dongles were to fail. Hopefully your company will issue a better MacBook if the MacBook Air becomes unusable. Perhaps if you need a better one you and your client can both request a better one or you can buy one when they are refreshed and send the bill to your company. If they refuse to reimburse you then you could have the option to return it within the 14 day return period.
