I know this is an odd question to ask here.. But I recently moved into a new apartment complex. In the lease, it states:

"If the rent is paid after the 3rd day of the month, a late charge of $45.00 will be due."

Today is August 2nd, if I pay my rent tomorrow (Aug. 3rd) will I have to pay the late fee? I shouldn't have to, because it says after the 3rd day of the month, correct? Their office is closed now, just curious about what I should expect tomorrow. Thanks!

And we're supposed to know what you should expect tomorrow?!

Sort of depends on a lot of variables...your payment history, your landlord's interpretation of the lease, whether the landlord had a good crap tomorrow morning...so tough to predict!

In short, anybody can say anything, and it won't mean a thing...:p

As far as I can understand, you will pay a late fee if you paid August 4th.

Pay it by tomorrow. Don't wait until the 4th. You never know if they check security footage to verify, although I doubt it. It won't clear until later due to the weekend, but it's a matter of when you submit the check, not when they process and cash it.

You should be fine to pay tomorrow. The wording is clear and you could rightly kick up a big stink if they gave you a hard time about paying on the third. If for any reason you have to leave a note, include the date. :)

there is no rent

Spoon boy: There is no spoon.

Neo: There is no spoon?

Spoon boy: Then you'll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

Tomorrow is now today, so if you pay your rent today you won't have to worry about the new tomorrow.

Do what everyone does. Pre-date the check, drop it in the mail and play dumb.

Except that rarely works anymore, heck even banks ignore the date field, that is post-dated checks get cashed blindly like all other checks.

I thought you looked familiar...

Hmmmm, I'd rather be likened to the centaur, Firenze. :p

Edit: I'm all kinds of bad brain today.

Excellent exchange.....well, I have thoroughly enjoyed it......indeed, it is my second HP related exchange today.

To the OP.........I suggest you pay it, and then proceed to debate dates and days with us.
