Am I making a rushed decision? My iPhone 5 for a Note 2.

Someone wants to trade me their Note 2 for my iPhone 5. I'm about 30 minutes away from doing it.

    My concerns:
The S4 would lower the value of the Note 2 but not the iPhone 5.
This is more of an iOS vs. Android economics byproduct but people who want iOS want iOS and the iPhone 5 is the best iOS device. The S4 won't devalue the iPhone 5 as much as the Note 2 because there will be hundreds, maybe thousands of second hand Note 2's hitting the market for people who want to 'side grade' to the S4.

Am I getting tech hungry? In the last three months I've owned like four different handheld devices. Should I stick with the iPhone 5 or will I really be right at home with a Note 2? (Before the iPhone 5, I had a Galaxy S3 and I loved it but yes the iPhone 5 was faster)

Ask why they want to swap for an iPhone. I'd say no personally.

You'd say no it's not a rushed decision or no to the trade?

It's the smart phone adage- They tried the Note 2 because it was the big new thing, couldn't get used to it and want to crawl back to familiar iOS.

Basically if you want to try the Note 2 out and your not losing anything other than $50-100 in trade-up next time you sell, and you can deal with that.. Go for it.

The Note 2 is basically a bigger, better S3. Did you like the S3 more than the iPhone 5? If not, you might not like the Note better either.

Ah, trading is a different story.

If you think you can love your Note 2 even when the S4/One come out, go for it.

If you think you'll be clamming for the S4/One, I'd say keep your iPh5 for resale value. That's similar to what I might do if I keep the iPh5 beyond its 30 day return policy.

I decided to keep my iPhone.

When the S4 drops, the Note 2 won't be as touted as now. Even now the Optimus G Pro makes it a hard case to decide. Plus the HTC One.

One of the key advantages to owning an iPhone 5 is that I own the best iPhone until the 5S drops. It's a nice security of investment. After the S4/One dust settles I'll try to find a deal I'm comfortable with.

I honestly think you need to reconsider your values and what is important. Having "the best iPhone" doesn't make your life any better, it is just a device, nothing more nothing less. If you are judged by the device you own then you have a problem IMHO. I do not see how owning any phone is an "advantage" and advantage to what or over what?

Also, no phone is an investment, they all lose value from the moment you buy them, some faster than others, but none appreciate...the basis behind an investment is appreciation, not depreciation.

I think he means this just in terms of resale value.

Then Galaxy Note II is the better choice over the Galaxy S4 software wise. Everything software wise that is found on the galaxy s4 will be found on the note 2 and galaxy s3. The only difference between the galaxy s4 and the note 2 is screen resolution and ppi. Both the note and galaxy S3 runs 1280x720 vs samsung galaxy S4 which runs 1920x1080. All 3 phones run with 2GB of of RAM. Both note 2 and galaxy S3 run 1.6GHz processors quad core or dual core. The Galaxy S4 runs at 1.8 quad core (US) Octo-Core (8)(international).

You think Samsung is going to update Touchwiz on the S3 to the same capabilities as the S4? I would think they would keep it as an upgrade incentive, no? Have you heard otherwise?

Well to compare, does the Galaxy S2 have the same Touchwiz OS as the current S3 ?

    I don't know.

If you go to androidcentral.com or even google and type galaxy S4 software features on galaxy note 2 and three. Samsung made a statement after its event saying that whatever is software and not directed towards hardware, dual video, eye scrolling will find its way to its flagship devices including but not limited to the Samsung Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S3. http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-software-improvements-headed-galaxy-s3

In my opinion the s4 brings down the value of the s3 not the note

I made the mistake of returning my iPhone 5 for the Note 2 just last month. I liked it at first, but then I realized how much more I liked iOS - the speed and fluidity of it and all the apps - as well as the hardware - the camera and clear display. I also hated the dropped frame rates and lag I experienced consistently with the note and then returned the Note 2 for the iPhone again. Plus, the iPhone 5 will sell easier/better once the 5S comes out. Just my experience.

For US users of the Galaxy S3, may or may not be as lucky. Samsung a while back was supposed to release a premium pack bundle for galaxy S3 users bring note 2 features. Overseas S3 users got lucky, US users not. Hopefully they do push this out to US Carriers

Right, I do not understand the carrier hold back here in the US. Forget making a law to prevent unlocking, they need to make a law that prevents carriers from holding back software upgrades as an means to extract hardware upgrades from users.

I think he is referring to the resale value, ie trading the Iphone 5 for a S4 over a Note 2 in the future.

    Resell.

    iPhone 5 32gb ($299 on contract)
Vs Note 2 ($299 on contact)

The iPhone 5 has probably an average $50-70 more in resell value on black market.

Now if u got a lower price on note 2 on contract (say last Monday 99 cent refurbished note 2 att promo). Than that 99 cent note 2 will give u more bang for the buck with resell.

The re sell value has diminished considerably in Montreal. I tried selling my 64g ip5 and was only able to get 460 $!!!

Wow must suck to sell phones in Canada.

iPhone 5 16gb goes for $590 here every day. I got offers of $550 when I was looking for a Note 2.
