I downloaded the AIM app and when I look at my buddys they are offline. I can't send them messages until they are online again.

I thought push was supposed to push it when they are offline.

Push only works you are online. If your buddies don't have an iPhone or other push-capable device, they're not going to the the message until they sign back on.

You've got push backwards in your head. Your phone will notify YOU when someone IMs YOU while you're not in the AIM application.

Think of it as AIM pushing IMs to you, not you pushing IMs to your friends.

Right -- now, even after you quite AIM your status will still be 'available' to your buddies or 'away' if you put up an away message. Either way, you are still signed in to the service, and will receive near-instant push notifications when someone messages you when the app on your iPhone isn't running.

This is in contrast to the old way -- when you quit the IM app, your status was set to offline and nobody could send you messages.

No you guys are wrong. If someone sends a push message to someone who is offline, AOL has a team of people that find that person and hand-deliver the message.

Your right, they even run around with a megaphone playing the IM sound when they hand it over.

Thanks captain obvious

My buddys all have iphones and running 3.0

When I look at their status they are offline.

They say my status is online even when I am out of the app.

I think what is happening is that they set AIM to log off after x minutes.

Therefore they are unavailable to push notifications.

It's amazing that after you were spoon-fed answers to your question you still:

1) Have no idea what Push is

and

2) Attempt to ridicule those who were trying to help

you are exactly right in your last two lines. so "captain obvious" why not tell them to not have it log them off

You should have just admitted that you were unclear of what "push" meant and took it in stride. Instead claiming that you "know" what it is, when in fact it was clear to everyone that you had no idea. The posters here aren't here to ridicule you, but a "thanks, you cleared that up for me" is always welcomed. :)

Haha! The push feature was like he thought it was then it would be the worst addition to the iPhone ever.
