So I was having some problems and booting from the Mac OS 10.4 DVD did not fix them (Disk Utility) so I tried Tech Tool 4, it required me to go into Startup Items and select it from there to boot.

Now it will not boot on anything else but that CD, even the Mac OS 10.4 DVD, DiskWarrior 3.03 CD....not even an original Mac OS 9.1 will boot the machine. But as soon as I put in the TechTool 4 CD it boots. There is no option in TechTool to choose your startup destination. Am I screwed?

Another thing....I know you should have the option to press Option at boot to choose where you want to boot from but....I set a password for Open Firmware and....I forgot it and now I cannot get passed where it is asking me to enter a password :(

Any help would be GREAT! :(

    Out of luck...

    Yeah, you're screwed.

That's the whole idea BEHIND an open firmware disables the ability to boot up from anything without knowing the password...

I'm guessing your HD is dead.

You can't boot from your hard drive? Remove the disk, what happens on boot? Try also (after the disk has been removed) to hold "t" on startup. Connect you mac to another one via firewire. You mac will act as an external HD, so you can salvage stuff if you want...

What exactly happened to your HD? Did you try starting in single-user mode?

    Sorry I can't help more...
