Found myself in the exact same situation last week with my Macbook Pro (purchased Jan 2008)...although the diagnostic equipment at the Genius Bar claimed it was not the GPU issue mentioned earlier. Logic board still had to be replaced as was the case with yours (along with the left I/O board, but that was an independent issue I'd been having prior to this).
In any case, it still had to be sent away for repair...came back in remarkable time (dropped it off with Apple at around 2pm Wednesday, it was at my doorstep by 1130am Friday).
