I'd wait a few months until they start selling refurbished touch bar units. I'm also expecting some sort of touch bar-related controversy to pop up once people start receiving them in a few weeks. There's always "something" that seems to stir the pot with people with the new tech after it ships.

Get the popcorn ready, folks. Things are just getting started.

I'm in a semi-similar position and I'd like some input/advice . Biggest difference is I don't use an iPhone because I can't stand them, plan is to continue using Android regardless of laptop . Is the "Apple Ecosystem" really a thing anymore or does it not matter?

I have a gaming PC desktop at home, but I work away from home 4 days a week so I need a laptop for that time , I also do a fair bit of travel aswell and I plan to go for a 6+ month long trip in 18 months so I want a laptop that's easy to carry around, meaning no 15". Biggest problem with that is that laptops will probably be even more light in that time.. The only windows applications I use daily that are important to me are foobar for music and mpc-hc for movies. I assume there are good alternatives for Mac?

I could easily get a PC since I don't mind Widows but I absolutely detest every touchpad I've used except MBPs so thats my main reason for wanting a Mac, is that reason enough?

I expect to do some coding and some light gaming aswell (indie games + Hearthstone) apart from the standard browsing+YouTube. If Adobe Lightroom worked without lag it'd be amazing . Currently considering base non-tb or base tb, money doesn't really matter but I prefer to spend it on stuff with the highest longevity and quality above all alse. I don't have an opinion about the touchbar since I haven't seen it in a review yet, I like the concept but I don't "need" it, a 28W processor over 15W might make it more long lasting though ?

I can't be the only one choosing now to go the other way?
No of course not, but as long time mac owners, many of us feel that apple going down a path that is counter to what we want and/or need. While the new MBP is a nice looking machine, it has a number of sacrifices that some folks feel that are very un-apple like or they are apple-like but just don't like

I'm not for boycotting, per say, I'm not looking to start a grass roots effort or join one, but rather, I find the tool that best fits my needs. If a MacBook Pro doesn't fit my needs, I move to another product.

I am not a OSX person however all my computers are macs, (Minis and a 2015 MBP)

My usage of the MBP is at least 98% on the Windows 10 bootcamp side.
I have used Win10 on a dell XPS 15 and I feel the MBP runs it better.

My usage is mainly in the Adobe suites, video editing and graphics design.

I was excited about the new MBPs however the price and ports made me ask myself if the 2015 MBP needed to be replaced. Between the MBP, applecare, dongles I was staring at $4200 USD. The answer was a solid NO.

With that said, if I was still using a 2014 or earlier MBP I would have pulled the trigger. The trackpad alone would have made the upgrade well worth it.
