I've been with rogers in Canada since December 2008.
I live in Sudbury, Ontario and I have not had one dropped called since i've been with them.
I have the iPhone 3G, and my average monthly minutes are over 900 minutes on nights and weekends and about 500 for weekdays.
Everyone complains about dropped calls, even when I go to my girlfriends about 20 minutes outside of my city, I get the Edge network, however calls are still clear and I never drop any.

Am I the only one who gets lucky, is my coverage just better?

The problems are mostly related to network over-crowding.

I just looked your area up on wikipedia and it looks like you have about 160,000 people living in your city, with an equal amount spread out in the suburbs around you.

For contrast, my wife works for a school system that has 170,000 kids in it.

So I'm willing to bet the cell towers I use are bit more crowded than the ones you access. So yes, you can credit your network for your wonderful coverage.

True, altho the wikipedia is out dated. :p

Sudbury just had a huge rush of minors come here, there was a huge nickle boom and they were paying good money, the population jumped up to an estimated 270 000.
It's pretty bad when a 1 bedroom apartment in our "Ghetto" can get up to 1200 + utilities.

Those who have issues scream the loudest. It just depends on where you live. I travel between Washington DC, Williamsburg, VA, Boston, MA, and Roanoke, VA often, and I don't believe I have ever had a dropped call, believe it or not.

I've used my iPhone with a few different carriers in the UK and am now using it in Austria and I can't remember dropping a call either. It's all network based.

I use the iPhone on AT&T in Indianapolis, and I've never had a dropped call.

that is not entirely true, some people also just have better things to do than be on hold and talk to incompetent CSRs who can't do anything about it except to tell you to reboot your phone so they just live with it

I'm in the UK on Orange. I've never had a dropped call. Guess it's because i live in a rural area and have an Orange phone mast viewing distance from the end of our garden.

    Just depends on the area.

I'm on AT&T and occasionally get a dropped call in my city, but not often. However about 10 mins over in the next town I drop calls constantly.

My dad is up in Canada... around the Orillia area and hasn't had a dropped call since he picked up the iPhone last year.
