I keep seeing that the typing experience on it is “mushy” and people don’t like it. I had one for my 2017 12.9 and now for my 12.9 2020, and I’ve always found them to be pretty great. I really like the feeling of the material and I don’t find it mushy at all.

Granted, I haven’t tried the new MJK (can’t exactly go in and try one these days), but I imagine it’s somewhat similar to the gen 2 magic keyboard for Mac. I have one of those, and I don’t find it THAT much better than the SKF. I don’t feel the need for the trackpad as I use a mouse when it’s on the desk, and am happy to just use the screen when it’s on my lap.

Anyone else happy with the SKF and don’t feel the need for the MJK?

I actually really like typing on the smart keyboard folio (on my iPad pro 11") too! But I had the smart keyboard for my old iPad pro 10.5" and my MacBooks are butterfly keyboards so I might just be used to the typing experience.

I tried out the Logitech slim folio case as people seem to like typing on that keyboard but honestly I think I will liked the smart folio keyboard more.

Not tried out the magic keyboard yet though...

I’ve had some experience with the Smart Keyboard Folio for the 12.9” iPad Pro. I wouldn’t say I love it but it’s not bad. I don’t mind the “mushy” feel of the keys and I like how light it is and how it folds all the way back when I want to use the pencil. The only gripes I had were:
  • lack of backlit keys
  • there is no way to tell if Caps Lock is on or not (I keep hitting it by accident)
  • Constantly reaching up to press anything on the screen (this one I just sort of learned to tolerate so it’s okay).

Now I’m using the Magic Keyboard for a bit of a test run. I can tell you it’s a much better typing experience compared to the SKF. The trackpad is very useful and the keys feel great to type on. It’s definitely not perfect and the price point is still ridiculous, but I can honestly say in confidence that I’m enjoying the MK a lot more than the SKF.

I own the SKF and the MK. I thought about selling the SKF, but as many of you know the exterior doesn't wear well. So, I doubt I'd get much for it. I now have decided to keep both.

Given the three advantages that the SKF has, over the MK, is crumb/drink resistance, complete keyboard fold over and light weight.

Would I have popped for both of them, if both were available to me at the same time? Well only if Apple offered a paired purchase deal. Dream on ;)

Even though the trackpad offers a lot of convenience and utility I don’t believe I was really missing it with the keyboard folio, which I still have. But I always felt the need for the backlighting. However as you noted the folio preventS crumbs or some kind of debris from being a problem. I’ve already had to pull out a compressed air can to blow out some debris from under one of the keys on my Magic keyboard. And given the lightness of the folio ipad combo I believe I would switch to it when taking my ipad out of my house to a coffee shop or hotel or similar location. Not much of that going on currently but if such things become possible again in the future that’s what I plan to do. As far as typing experience my ability is so limited that pure typing experience is lost on me, the folio is just fine in that regard.

Personally I don't need the backlit keys, and caps is not a problem for me. I find when I'm using it on my lap that it's close enough that touching the screen is just natural. And as I said, when it's on a surface, I'm using the Magic Mouse anyway.

The typing experience is much better on the MK. The SKF was fine as it was sealed. It reminded me of my old mechanical keyboard that you put a plastic cover on. It make the keys mushy but at least you knew it was protected from spills and dirt. After several years, my SKF was still in good shape. But beyond feel, I like the backlit keys and having the trackpad is also great. For me, only the weight gives me some doubt, but overall, I really like the MK.

I absolutely love the typing experience on the ASK and SKF. I am mainly trying the MK because of being able to angle it and have a little more height with it, and because it’ll be easy to pull off the iPad, leave the keyboard setup intact on the desk, and use the iPP with just a skin when I want to relax and use it as a tablet.

However, I am really going to have to love typing on the MK or I’ll be returning it and getting a SKF.

I think it was overpriced for what it is. Now I’m want to to sell it and use my Magic Keyboard 2 for it instead.

I really liked typing with the Smart Keyboard Folio. I didn’t find the keys mushy and I liked the noise they made combined with the clickiness of the buttons. My biggest complaint for the SKF was that the material wore away really quickly and the letters/number disappeared. I just got the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro and I’m blown away at how great this thing is. It’s incredibly expensive, but it’s worth the money.

I have to agree with you about the MK. I honestly didn’t know what I would think because I really liked the Smart Keyboard/ASK, but I got it today, and I absolutely love it!
