I can see where it would look "more natural" to you if you set your home DVD player to stretch widescreen videos to "fill" a 4:3 TV. I know quite a few people whose brains have compensated for the squeeze so that they don't even recognize it anymore.It looks more natural when actually watching it on the iPad.

I like to convert all my videos that I watch on my iPad (and I watch a lot) to the native screen resolution of the iPad. I hate seeing those black bars and it looks much more impressive when viewed in full screen.
I also don't notice any squeezing when viewed on the iPad, so what are your reasons for keeping videos at its original resolution?
... Don't get me started on pan & scan...
I think the black bars on a movie look worse on a white iPad than on a black iPad.
