Mechanical board user here at my desk all day (Topre), and I love the feel of my rMB's keyboard. If the new models are even 'clicky-er' so much the better. The old keyboard was too mushy for my taste.

i love it, i get used to it on day 2. it looks much better than the old chiclet keyboard. and this keyboard has a bit more travel than the current macbook i had. much better typing on the new mbp than the rmb.

I can type quite fast on it but there are 2 issues:

(1) Doesn't feel good
(2) I have to constantly look down on the keyboard to make sure I press on the buttons
(3) The noise it makes is ridiculous, especially in a silent environment. I don't wanna annoy people around me, in places like the library or classrooms.

Maybe Apple will improve it in the future but at this moment it's a no-no to me, returned the 13" and ordered a 15" (2015) instead.

I love the new keyboard. Once you use it for a while and find that you don't have to press as hard as the older models it isn't nearly as loud as when you first start using it and are slamming the keys. I hated how wobbly the old keys were. Also, my favorite new feature is the backlighting. The 2015 rMBP was my first Apple computer and I never once used the backlit keyboard because of how the light leaked out so badly, but the lighting on the new MBP is perfect, I love having it on.

I wish people would just stop all that "am I the only oine..." crap. No chances are 99,999% someone else on planet earth is thinking like you, you aren't that special.

That being said the keyboard sucks. It's a bit better than the one on the rMB (which feels cheap and crappy) but it's a far cry from the Surface Pro and especially book modells. Personally I think it's also too loud. I'm sure at home nobody cares but if you are in a room full of students loud keyboard do stand out and not in a good way.

haha calm down there buddy, its called an expression ;)
If you're typing in such a way people more than 1 meter away can audible here you, I'm sorry but you're just bashing on your keyboard

I spent a while in Best Buy comparing the new with the old and I also liked the new keyboards. The larger keys are nice and the even action no matter where you press is great. It seemed fast and accurate. I found if I did type hard it was really loud but my normal typing sounded fine. I was in a store though so tough to say until I actually get it but overall I really liked it for the time I spent with it.

This new keyboard like most things is a matter of opinion and preference. As some know of me here at MR, I tell it like it is (sometimes get scolded for it) but I speak the truth and not everything Apple does nor any company for that matter is near perfect.

Back to this new keyboard. I love the speed at which I can type on it, its very fast. I like the minimal key travel and the larger keys. It is a louder sound when typing and a considerably different sound when compared to the previous keyboard. I thought the sound would bug me but it's not. I don't love it but I don't completely hate the sound either. The speed and tactile feedback makes up for it.

For me it's:

Pre 2016 MacBook Pro keyboard -> surface book -> dell xps -> 2016 rMBP -> 12" rMB.

I just picked up the new baseline MBP. The keyboard is actually what pushed me over the edge toward buying it. Oddly, I felt that the last generation felt very mushy especially compared against my desktop mechanical keyboard. This keyboard is very satisfying to type on. And may I say as an aside: damn this thing is hot

while it feels much, MUCH better than a keyboard in macbooks, i did lots of mistyping with it. and i mean lots - im typing fast and can do 10finger system without watching my fingers. i still like more my current macbooks pro keyboard (not the butterfly). but i think people can used it, but... BUT... it will be quite annoying to use other keyboards at the same time and try to get used to a butterfly keyboard.

I tried it today at my nearest Apple Store and well, it's quite similar compared to the MacBook but with "more" key travel. I actually like it more than the MacBook but still prefer my MBA keyboard.

It's an improvement over the 1st gen butterfly keyboard for sure. I could get use to it, but I don't love it. Don't hate it, just don't love it. That said it's still a downgrade from the previously MBP keyboard with it's short travel.

I still don't know why Apple changed except that they want the 13", especially, to be the new Air replacement so they had to take a few mm off the case? But why wouldn't the MacBook be the new Air? And why take it out on the 15", which, for people that have one, is their main computer -- not necessarily there only, just their main one.

I gave the new keyboard a try at Best Buy. Definitely not a big fan of it. It's not terrible like the MacBook keyboard though.

I'd rate it usable. I prefer the old style though.

Funny Thing is, once you try the new Keyboard on the 2016 MBP the old Keyboard instantly feels outdated and spongy.
I still think they should have combined more travel with the new Butterfly System to get great travel and stability.

I'm confident it's something I get used to and after a couple of days I'll never look back. A couple of days left to find out if I can adjust.

Typing on the new keyboard did take some time for me to get used to...But after some typing over the weekend, I'm happy with the new keyboard.

Just did notice that it is a little loud. But whatever, it's all good.

I wondered down to my local Apple store today to pick up a USB A dongle and a charger cable for my impending delivery this week.

While was there i had a play with the 2016 non touch bar 13inch model.

I didn't mind the keyboard, Yes it is a little louder typing than my mid 2010 MBP, and it'll take a little time to get us too the short keystroke, but so far so good.

Space Grey does look great after my last two Silver MBP.
