This seems to get an AWFUL lot of hate even from Apple fanboys. I love it. In fact when I bought my first Mac 10 years ago, I swear I think I was most impressed by the mouse! (While finding the keyboard something I instantly wanted to replace. Have they improved?). I have poor vision so I zoom a lot and the way you can so effortlessly and fluidly do horizontal scrolling of a zoomed image was a revelation. I've yet to find any PC mouse that can do horizontal scrolling nearly as well. (If anyone knows of one, I'd welcome any recommendations).

I also don't find it uncomfortable at all. It requires a very light touch and maybe that's what takes getting used to? And yes, it would be nice if you charge it while using, but I have to recharge so seldom, it hardly seems like a big deal.

It's the Magic Trackpad I can't seem to bond with. This seems to be far better reviewed. I just find it's not as precise and when I place it to the side like a mouse it feels unwieldy. So I figured maybe some people place it directly in front of them to mimic a laptop trackpad experience? I tried that and it did seem to become more user friendly but then I hate having my keyboard placed back behind it.

So I feel like I may be in the minority here, but mark me down as pro MM and anti MTP!

Same. I’ve always liked Magic Mice. They fit neatly and comfortably between my thumb & fourth finger - with my hand resting on the desk. Scrolling works great.

The only snag is you can left-click, or right-click, but you can’t do both simultaneously - which you may want to do with some games

I have no issues with its ergonomy (I hold it differently from normal shape mice), but it's precision and tracking suck for anything beyond browsing and office work. I like 360° scroll though.

I like my Magic Mouse and have used one since they were introduced. The only major flaw IMO is the fact that one can't charge it and use it at the same time. The lightning connector being at the bottom is stupid. All they had to do was raise the entire mouse a little and put the lightning connector up front, under the part where you click. Then it could be used wired, like the Magic Keyboard.

There's loads of PC mice that can do horizontal scrolling. The Logitech MX Master 3 has a side wheel for it, some mice like the Logitech G903 let you tilt the scroll wheel left/right to scroll horizontal. I think the Microsoft Arc Surface mouse is basically just a PC Magic Mouse if you really really must have touch scrolling.

I think the Magic Mouse is far too expensive for what you get. Can't press both left and right clicks, no middle click, no hardware profiles, no high polling etc. I also find sometimes I'd click and it just wouldn't register because I'm slightly off. It should be a $50 mouse.

Worst mouse ever created. Hope whoever came up with the idea of underneath charging was fired, and the people responsible for the rubbish ergonomics. I only use the Magic Trackpad currently and is the only thing you should use if you are only looking for apple branded.

They can do it...........but not nearly as fast. Those side wheels are like driving a horse and buggy. The Magic Mouse is like traveling on the Autobon.

I won't say you're wrong about the charging thing, but the battery life is so long, does it actually matter? Seems like the ultimate first world problem. I find the trackpad an ergonomic nightmare myself. Trackpads only work when they are directly in front of you like on a Macbook or any other laptop. To the side they are the worst.

I really love the implementation of the touch surface! My top 3:
  1. Moving a canvas in Photoshop horizontally & vertically with 1 Finger is soo great and unmatched at this intuitive and smooth level
  2. I assigned tapping gestures to switch between Safari tabs (no need to use the keyboard or move the mouse to click a tab)
  3. Middle click (for a.e. rotating stuff in CAD software) is simulated by simultaneously pressing "left" and "right" click
(#2 & #3 are achieved with BetterTouchTool)

Of course the charging port is just plain stupid but luckily I only get worked up by this every several weeks.

Ok. You don't like the side wheel method, lucky for you there's like 15 different ways to do it. If speed is an absolute concern you can do horizontal scrolling on something like the G903 by holding down a side button and spinning the free wheel. And spinning the free wheel is way way faster than the MM if you're hard enough. And as I already mentioned if you're absolutely married to touch scrolling and want a PC version, Microsoft makes the Surface Arc mouse...

The charging port on the MM is not a huge issue unlike what “influencers” and other people are saying. I mean you get a month of usage when you charge it so how is that a big deal? People are weird if you ask me … influencers who are clueless all say that to have something to say about the MM. others are just repeating what they read online. Don’t listen to them.

However the Magic Mouse is a bit too low profile for me. Also the polling/tracking accuracy is way too poor which is a dealbreaker for me. The horizontal scroll gesture is nice and is the only value add of this mouse in my opinion).

I tried the MX Master 3S but I don’t like it. It’s too heavy. Too bulky (I’m 6”3 though) and I’m not accurate enough while using it. I hate the scroll wheel.

I think I will settle for a G502/G903 instead. They are better mice and im just more efficient using them over a MM or MX3 for both office and gaming purposes.

While I prefer to use the Magic Trackpad at home, I do take the Magic Mouse with me when traveling. It’s easier to find a surface to use it when on the road. The Magic Trackpad needs a flat stable surface to rest on so not ideal when on a train, using on a tray table, etc.

yes it's terrible. so bad that it made me hate using a mouse & I switched from MX Master 3 back to the Magic Trackpad 2.

It's one of the worst mouse ergnomically, probably only trumped by the hockey puck mouse. And then there's the charging port location... It's as if Apple made it to intentionally troll their own customers, and lo and behold, people gobbled it up as if it's a great/decent mouse. :D

In general, I'm not a mouse guy anyway. Mice take a lot of desktop space, and you have to move it around. I prefer trackpad anytime. Before, I even use trackballs on my Windows setup. The only situation where I see a mouse is better is during playing FPS/RTS games. But for overall desktop usage, I prefer a trackpad. Stationary, doesn't need to move around, thus takes less desktop space.

First of all, it’s the most comfortable mouse I’ve every used. I have a mix of first and second generation Magic Mice at home and work. Each have their issues but I have yet to find a mouse that I prefer over these. The touch surface is probably my favorite feature, but I also find that they track more reliably over different surfaces than any other mouse I’ve tried. My desk at work causes issues with almost every other optical mouse, LED or laser, but the Magic Mouse handles it fine.

When Craig demo'd the mouse for the first time, I saw the warning signs. Due in NO part to his typical nervous behavior, I noticed that every gesture he tried to demonstrate had to be repeated multiple times to work. That said it all.

Now I've had the chance to use the Magic Mouse many times and even have two. Hate them. Just as Craig demonstrated, you will NEVER, and I mean N-E-V-E-R get the gestures to work on the first try or without triggering something completely different. Even something as "simple" as scrolling is broken.

I will say that it has come in handy for keeping the receipts from blowing off of my desk, though.

Try to move the mouse diagonally too. The tracking is so poor. Honestly a regular gaming mouse is so much better at almost everything. Only thing I like about the MM is the double tap to do a zoom. I’m not sure how this is doable with other mice (broken with the MX 3S for example).

I was generally fine with the Magic Mouse until I tried something better earlier this year. Now, I can never go back. You only know what you know.
