We have a modern 13" around the house (spouse work) and it's trackpad doesn't give me anywhere near the rejection issues I had with multiple 15" models.

The one on the 15" is just plain and simple too big.
If they would just put the 13" size trackpad on both the 13" and 15" models I think we'd be fine.
I did think the same when I first saw the models in the flesh - the 13" seems a good size to me, the 15" was just stretched out to look 'edge to edge' - the 2015 models had the same size trackpad for both sizes.

Before I bought my 2017, I rang apple service. And I spoke to a technician, who was hilarious, having souped up some Macs with overclocking and he did some bazaar things ... like sealing a box with a heat sink inside, and then doubling the clock speed ... smoke came out though ... anyhow, he said there is a forum on Apple's site, where people can post what they don't like. And what they would like. Not a bad place to go I'd reckon.

Has anyone written a utility that will shrink the active area of the trackpad? That seems like a helpful compromise: reducing its active size by a quarter to half an inch on each side would likely do the trick.

I thought Apple was going to introduce the Apple pencil to the enlarged trackpad. That didn't happen yet. I think your issue has to do with the size of your hands and how you rest your hands when you type. Some may not experience it, but based on my past experiences with Windows laptops, I am likely to experience touchpad interference while typing too.

Message deleted. I was reacting angrily to people who post answers like, "I do not have this problem." Really not responsive to the topic, especially when the poster feels compelled to tell those having the issue to learn how to type. Apple is completely unresponsive to this as a "suggestion." I found it easier to avoid the cursor jumps under prior OS; Catalina made this worse.

The 13" MBP trackpad is pretty much the perfect size/ratio. I have not encountered any problems with my 2018 13" MBP, but my new 2019 16" MBP is another story.

This issue is freaking driving me nuts. I actually tried to go back to a 15" a year ago after running a 13" MBA/MBP for some time and ran into this as one of my main issues. I figured I'd give it another go and not even just a few days in I'm already wishing I was back on my 13" MBP (I wanted the physical ESC key so bad, damn).

I'm having the very same issue here.
As Chinese using Chinese input, I frequently press the 5 or 6 digit key with my left-hand point finger to select the Characters.
And every time, every freakin' time!! I end up with ghost touches that ruined my input.
How come, just how come, in 2022 already, does MacBook not have palm rejection......

There is a solution though, which is to buy a skin, that covers the top part of the trackpad, the part that might be unintentionally touched by the palm or the thumb finger.
it's like helping rocket science with a wood stick yet somehow it works...

Try with "Tap to click" turned off in System Preferences.
