So, I decided to run a speedtest because my service has been really good lately. I was shocked to find out that Verizon's 3G was producing pings as low as 90! That's insane for 3G! This is in the Boston area. My wifi was off, so it couldn't of gotten the networks confused.

I took a picture after the speedtest was finished, and during it so you could see that it was running off of 3G. I think Verizon has been updating their towers or something. Anyway, this is amazing

Wow. Despite the rather slow speeds, it will probably still load faster than an AT&T iPhone running at 3Mb/s since it has such low latency.

I wonder if Verizon's latency has improved in my area. Can't test since I have AT&T.

Amazing? Your speed is less than a meg!

on 3G you're getting less than 1mb down....thats kind of horrible.

Congrats on the great ping though, I'd much rather have the 3mbs down with a 190 ping here in Los Angeles anyday!

This is the strange thing -- i usually get about 1.4 mbps, granted AT&T's is A LOT faster, but verizon's load webpages faster. Youtube is a lot better on AT&T's network though. They both have their advantages and disadvantages!

Just wondering if anyone is experiencing the same thing in the Boston area or any area for that matter. They must have added new towers or something

Ya, your ping is AMAZING:eek: Man, I wish I was on Verizon. I could download apps at a snails pace... and those 40-50 ms are just gonna give me fits:p

And no... Verizon didn't update their towers. speedtest.net released an update changing how they measure ping. It came out like 2 days ago. Verizon and ATT did nothing.

lots of ping :(

edit: the 2nd one is after the app update, so the poster above may be right about the ping just being measured differently

My ping has always been around 90-120. My area is pretty good though. I usually never drop below 2Mbps down on 3G at my house, at work or when I'm out around town. Verizon is bringing 4G to my area on July 21st, so I expect to see even better results due to the tower upgrades expected and such.

I average about 2mb down, but at one point I was getting really fast downloads. It didn't last very long. This was on AT&T of course.
