Late last week, iFans noted that Amazon quietly made some changes to its new Cloud Player for playing music stored by users in its new Cloud Drive service, making the player compatible with iOS devices for the first time. While it isn't quite as nice as an actual app, it provides nearly all of the functionality that you could ask for. Even the multitasking music controls work flawlessly. Sound quality is said to be "great," and the only part of it that is a little buggy seems to be the scrubbing capability.Uploading music is unsupported on iOS due to the feature's reliance on Flash, although users are presumably most interested in batch uploading tracks from their primary computers. Drag-and-drop playlist rearranging also appears to be unsupported, and iOS support appears to be U.S.-only at the moment. The user interface is also not customized for the smaller screens of the iPhone and iPod touch, making navigation a bit awkward and requiring frequent panning and zooming.

I will say this is a nice thing to add for iPhone users. It works great on my Android Powered phone. I just put the 5 gigs of my favorite music into Amazon Cloud and from there I can stream it to my phone.

Amazon Cloud Drive seems cool but it lacks a syncing feature or an iOS app like dropbox has. I already have 5gb in my free dropbox account from referrals so is there really any reason for me to switch?

So, basically, Amazon has a website that you can open on the iPhone. It's not made for iPhone, and so a bunch of stuff doesn't work properly, but you can open it.

How is this news? iPhone could almost-but-not-quite open websites from launch.

Dropbox is used for cloud storage of everything but really music.

Amazon Cload Player and Amazon Cloud is a great way to store some of your favorite Music in the cloud the stream anywhere. I use them for 2 very different things.

No... This is for streaming your music to your phone. Apple crappy flash set up screws them on easy uploading of all your songs.

For people in the UK personally I think it's better to just subscribe to spotify and use that instead.

I did not realize players in Safari got to use the multitasking bar audio controls.

That is neat.

It has a lot more lag than the android native app. I think its because the android app keeps a local cache, and iOS can't. I really can't wait to see how apple will do the whole streaming thing.

Love Amazon, hate the music labels. They are the ones who restrict this feature for U.S. only. Why? God knows.

For when apple launches there's it will be competition for apple.

"Free" services can have competition.

Just because you aren't paying to use it directly it doesn't mean that someone isn't making money from you.

Google.com is "free" to use, yet they'd much rather you use that than Bing or Yahoo. They make money from advertising. Amazon makes money from selling you MP3s.

This site is free to use, but that doesn't mean there aren't other Apple-themed sites looking for ad revenue.

I am going to enjoy this. I have more music than will fit on my iphone but have unlimited data so go go cloud.

I wonder how Amazon beat Apple to this... its not perfect but for those that have over 32gb and don't want to carry around multiple devices a cloud service is great... not to mention $1 per gb a year... Apple will probably come up with a more user friendly service for ios but I could easily see them charging that much a month instead of per year... which I would not pay for.

Podcast Catcher

I would be in heaven if Amazon could find a way to incorporate some sort of a "Podcast catcher" so I dont need to download the podcasts to my local computer, then upload them to Cloud Player. Since podcasts are usually free, there shouldnt be any legal issues there.

You would never stream 5 gigs a month to your phone would you? You'd need an unlimited Data plan.
This is more for backup of your digital assets right?

True--and here in the US I use both Pandora and MOG a lot. I also use iTunes and Amazon to buy movies, TV Shows and music--so what this means to me is more options--always a good thing.

What are the chances of an iOS native app ever appearing? Would be nice to have universal cloud access across my iOS, Android devices and my computers.

Whilst Apple must be on the verge of a decent cloud option in near future, I need a cross compatible one.

Well
1)I do have an unlimited data plan.

2)Not like I am going to stream all of the music every month but it all their for my choosing.

3) I am around Wifi most of the time. For example I can stream the music while I am at school studying before class using the schools wifi.

This is not for backing up my digital Assets. At last count my entire music library is back up on at least 3 different hard drives. (2 computers and 1 external.)
