not sure where to put this thread.... since i take pictures with my iPhone and want a way to store them in the cloud, i guess i'll choose here

so anyways what does everyone think of the new limited PHOTO storage for amazon prime members?

i'd been trying to decide where i wanted to pay for a cloud service for my iPhone pics i take.... i wonder if this is the answer to my question?

anyone else going to give it a try?

what are your thoughts? safe (well... as safe as any cloud)

i'm kinda impressed, if truly unlimited, that i can store all the pictures and videos on my computer too! i'm uploading a file of zoo pics to play around with it!

I think Amazon Cloud Drive has improved greatly and their offer to upload unlimited pictures is very nice for Prime members. I don't know what happens if you opt out of Prime though, so that is something you should check into.

Security wise, with Amazon's backbone, they should have decent security but the cloud is the cloud. Everything could be susceptible to hacks but at least Amazon offers a free backup that appears automatic. It also uploads the original image, uncompressed.

It's just another feature of Prime, I don't know if I'll use it. I've been considering My Cloud Drive by Western Digital myself and just get things all in one place.

isn't the my cloud drive one of those where you have your own hard drive but access it like a cloud service? i'd like to do one of those by the one be were going to get got bad reviews... i'll have to research this one!

as far as prime, i still wouldn't completely rely on the cloud... i'm too paranoid for that!

i thought it might be nice for sharing photos but unless i'm missing something, it appears you share individual files with a URL and not whole folders.... so not liking that (unless i'm missing something!)

Yeah the My Cloud drive is that one. Not too sure about the reviews but again, I wasn't running to buy one today. I have a NAS but cannot set it up the way I'd want to either for some reason.

Any cloud service should be used with as much caution, if not more, than you would have with a standard hard drive. So make backups, for example. Of course, things you don't want anyone to ever see are best left off the cloud, whereas, leaving them on a hard drive at home would be less risky...until someone gets to your computer. I could tin-foil hat this all day, I suppose.

oh the my cloud one isn't the one with bad reviews... it was one we saw at sam's club that was a good deal.... if it had worked... but we came home read the reviews on that one and ended up returning it unopened! it wasn't the western digital one, though!

I haven't used Amazon Cloud Drive, but I will add my thoughts that Amazon really needs to work on usability for their online services like hosting and music playing. I'd also be curious to know if Amazon offers any kind of protection for user data and media, to differentiation from DropBox (which uses Amazon services) and has trouble with privacy.

...plus Prime Instant Watch is a joke trying to navigate.
