I recently visited Amazon and was pleasantly surprised that I could actually use their audio preview feature!
For years they used some crap format (maybe RealPlayer?) for the streaming audio on their site. Whatever it was, it did not allow Mac users to preview songs from albums.

Well finally they made the switch to Flash and hence made their site fully accessible to everyone. (Well, ok maybe not iPhone/iPod touch users... but a lot more people anyway)

    A win for cross-platform compatibility. :D

I can always preview from Amazon. Now it's within the browser, used to be some file that is played via iTunes if I remembered correctly.

It was Real if memory serves, but I'd never had any trouble using it on a Mac. Maybe you just didn't have an up-to-date Real player installed?
