I'm actually surprised the Switch 2 only has 1080p for its built in display and is still months away from release and will be on the market for a solid 5 years and likely more. Why not 4k? At $450 this is not a cheapo device and should be cutting edge.
There's no point in having 4K on a screen that size. To appreciate retina quality on a 7.9" 4K screen (558 ppi), it would need to be about 6" or further away from your eyes. No one holds their Switch that close. A 7.9" 1080p screen (279 ppi) is retina quality at 12" or further. It's the PPI and viewing distance that matter...not the resolution.

Heck, the iPads and iPhones have been above 1080p for a long time.
Just barely... The iPhone 16 series is between 1170p and 1320p (460 ppi) depending on the model. The iPads are between 1488p and 1668p (ignoring the 13" models). The iPads have 264 ppi; except for the mini, which has 326 ppi. The Switch 2 has a higher PPI than the iPad Pro!

4k 50" tvs by major manufacturers can be found anywhere for easily under $500 full price.
It's much easier and cheaper to manufacture a large 50" 4K screen (88 ppi) than a small 7.9" 4K screen (558 ppi). You can't just compare the two by resolution. Again, it's the PPI that makes all the difference.

The release date is within the 90-days delay.

Pre-orders were initially scheduled for April 9. They will now be on April 24. That's a 2 week and 1 day delay because of the tariffs. Nintendo used that time to assess pricing.

While there will be no change in pricing for the Switch 2 itself, accessories for it will see a small increase. For example, the Switch 2 Dock Set will be $10 more than before, and many accessories will see a $5 increase (e.g. Switch 2 Camera; Switch 2 Pro Controller; Joy-Con 2 Pair; Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip).
The implication of the delay was Nintendo wouldn’t be able to release the product because of the tariffs. If the tariffs would’ve ended, then they could’ve said we’ll see what happened, we had to wait. The tariffs haven’t ended yet, but everything is going on as normal.

Yes they did have a delay, but in the end there was zero changes to the price of the switch. Yes they did raise the price $5-$10 on their already overpriced accessories. I guarantee you when the tariffs go away. Nintendo isn’t going to lower the price.

Nintendo never changed the launch date for the Switch 2, so this idea that "Nintendo wouldn’t be able to release the product because of the tariffs" is a load of 💩

Nintendo said Friday that preorders for the company’s hotly anticipated Switch 2 game console would be delayed following President Donald Trump’s announcement this week of sweeping new tariffs.

“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,” a Nintendo representative told CNBC. “Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”

My household is no longer purchasing anything from Amazon or Target because of their recent policy changes, and never did from Walmart… any other vendors that match these prices on the Air?

Best Buy.

But why ask Best Buy to match these Amazon prices when they'd match the slightly lower prices from Micro Center?

I totally agree, but that’s what was being reported on TV. They were discussing whether the release would have to be delayed or the price significantly increased because of the tariffs. Clearly neither happened and it was all a lie.
