Amazon today has the USB-C AirPods Max on sale for $399.99 in Starlight, down from $549.00. This is a match of the best price we've ever seen on the AirPods Max, and we expect more colors to match this price soon.

I like Apple stuff but this item is just to expensive I went out and bought the Beats Studio pro for $100’s less and it has similar specs and works well with my iPhone!
If you think that price is expensive. They are $899 in Australia. Sometimes you can get them into the $700’s. I went the Beats Studio Pro’s also.

Love mine, bought at launch. I've used them for several thousand hours for everything from music to calls to watching movies and they've been incredible. If I lost them right now, I'd be hard pressed to buy another pair, knowing they are still on H1 chips though. There are just too many features I love on AirPods Pro that still missing from APM.

I own a pair of airpods max and totally agree. They look cool and feel nice and all (if a bit heavy) but they aren't "last forever" headphones, they're "last about 2 years before the ribbon in the joints break" headphones. So I don't think they're a good value at all. Not even a "passable value" IMHO.

If you have a huge disposable income where you can impulsively spend $400-500 without flinching, sure! Have at it! I think the product people at Apple fall into this bucket and this is why they keep making stuff like $700 mac pro wheels and $1000 display stands. I remember when they advertised $400 iPods as "stocking stuffers" like as if they'd randomly hand their gardener a $400 ipod for christmas lol.

Also, I think if you're a big Apple fan and love Apple everything, you won't be disappointed. Ultimately the airpods max sound pretty good, transparency mode is really cool, and they connect as nicely as the other airpods do. They feel just like any other apple product in terms of packaging and build quality and materials.

wary of fakes on amazon / walmart when it comes to any airpods
Be wary of fake airpods in almost any online put or outlet that readily accept returns and puts returns on sale. (This us a common scam - someone buys a pair of authentic airports from a big box electronic outlets, buy a pair of fakes, the brings the fakes back with the receipt for the authentic pair).

It doesn’t apply to other Apple gear, but the amount of fake AirPods on sake is insane.

I have a pair. They're overpriced, but if you think they've been as good as you say, why are you hung up on "only H1 and not H2"? It's a letter and a number.

If you had been told the headphones you bought had had a "H100" chip inside, would that have made your experience better?

They're headphones. It sounds like you enjoy them and are happy with your purchase. I have a pair, I like mine. I bought mine knowing they were overpriced, but it was a "midlife crisis" present, and I couldn't afford a Ferrari :). I'm happy with them. What else matters?

Yep, that's it. If you want them and you have the disposable cash to buy them without leaving yourself in financial trouble, do it. They're just a pair of headphones. They won't last forever, but what does?

The reality is, you probably spend far, far money on groceries than on headphones or any consumer tech on a yearly basis.

Perfect. BestBuy Total Tech = free AppleCare for 2 years.
  1. $399 price match to Amazon
  2. $95 gift certificate (points I made when I purchased my iPhone 17 Pro in September)
  3. $130 trade-in on my 2020 AirPods Max that were out of warranty, had a weak battery and were exhibiting crackling sounds when ANC was enabled
  4. I'm in NH so no sales tax

$174 out the door to upgrade to the newest and I can celebrate because I got rid of my last Lightning device!!! Can finally ditch that cable and have USB-C on everything.

Upgrading from Sky Blue to Orange color.

I know there aren't any other new features but I got 5 years out of my first kit that I paid $499 for. This was the price I was waiting for.

Where in my post did I say I give a rat's ass about the version number of the processor?

What I said is that I miss the features that the more advanced processor gives, and am not sure would I buy another set of AirPods Max that hasn't been meaningfully updated in 5 years. Happy with my 2021 purchase, but not sure I'd buy the same product in 2025.

Also be careful returning airpods to amazon via UPS dropoff. Theres tons of thefts- the workers are in on it, and amazon support will not help you if something happens.

This is a product where if you have a good tv, an Apple TV and kids, it becomes a life saver and worth every penny. It’s the sound strange, the quality, Transparently is second to none etc. Noise cancelling can still hold its own after all these years and the integration with the apple ecosystem . Even if you don’t like the max, and your budget allows it, go get some good headphones for yourself and listen to your favorite song to have a moment to escape from the long day and mentally recharge yourself.

In your post. You said you loved them but you’d be hard pressed to buy them again because they have the H1 chip rather than a H2 chip.

Yes, so you care about the H2 and the resultant “features”. If you love the iteration you have, why do you worry that they haven’t been “meaningfully updated”?

It really dies read as if you do give a “rat’s ass”.
