It's likely only Apple will sell that configuration. But if you can apply a few discounts and cash backs, sometimes you can get a lower final cost from Apple than you get from a sale price on Amazon, even considering 5%+ cash back on the Amazon card.

Good to see these discounts and prices. Will be interesting to see the offers around Black Friday and end of the year.

So Apple raised prices to levels many consumers can’t stomach, and third party retailers have to cut their margins to compensate. Apple’s wholesale vs MSRP prices are have a wide real dollar spread at these new prices, especially the high memory configurations.

Amazon is likely happy making $X per unit rather than Y% like Apple, so they are still making the same $ profit today as they were making in July.

From Apple... They pulled the 64GB option from the stock retail configurations when they pulled the 512GB Mac Studio option from the configurator and made other changes related to RAM availability. So now 64GB+ is only available if you configure it yourself. Which means you have to order through Apple or one of their configuration partner retailers like MicroCenter or B&H. They're all going to be comparable, but each offers their own payment options and such, so see which one works for you.

Apple's refurb store will often save you 15% or so if they have the config you want. Some Apple Stores, if they do enough sales volume for business and advanced users, will stock some additional non-standard configurations. Usually you have to talk to the store itself to see if they have any.

I think this is an indicator of how Massive the Apple Upgrade program is going to be.
It's actually a great deal for MacBooks. The only downside I see to the program is that it may trap people into perpetual cycles of a new system every 3 years. But some of the good points are that you never pay more than original MSRP to own the computer, the remaining balance is reasonable, both to purchase and keep or to turn it in and walk away. If I can sell it for enough, I can complete the buy-out and then sell and make a few bucks. This will establish a floor for used values on these systems and should help keep resale values a bit higher. After your 2 or 3 year lease term is up, you have 6 months grace period where you continue paying the same monthly rate and it still applies to the balance owed on the device. I see people getting a high-config MBP and they can do the $170/month payment no problem, but when the lease is up the buyout may be like $1800 and they can't swing that, even if it's reasonable, and also can't be without a computer. So they're stuck where they just have to turn it in and get a new one where they're roped into monthly payments for the next 2~3 years and the cycle repeats.

I wouldn't buy now as the newer ones are around the corner and rumors has it much more powerful since it's skipping the M6.

That's great if you live in America. The 14 inch Macbook Pro with pro chip, 24gb, 2 tb=$2499USD. Amazon AUSTRALIA charges $5,029AUD. $2499USD = $3567AUD. ($5049AUD @ the Apple store). We get ripped off big time.

Apple sets the range of pricing that resellers can offer products at via their reseller agreement. Amazon's dynamic pricing still has to respect their contract with Apple.

Isn't a good portion of the difference that taxes are almost never included in the price of products in the US?

When not on sale, I'd be paying about $3350USD after taxes for that configuration. That works out about identical to the price listed on the Australian Apple Store after currency conversion.

At the time I looked, the $5029 AUD that the notebook configuration is listed for in the Australian amazon store is also for the higher binned M5 chip. It is also above the cost on Apple's site.

What a ripoff! This same specs with the M4 PRO chip last year was $1699 at Costco! Grifter nation under this regime.
Yes. I got brand new on July 8, a 24/512 m4 pro 14/20c 16” for 2000 usd + tax. To get the relatively same thing (marginal at best performance increase, not noticeable day to day for anything I do) now in m5 pro is at minimum 760 usd more. It’s crazy out there!! Very happy I got it and wont be buying a new laptop for years!!

As an FYI, pulled the trigger on an MBP 16 M5 Pro with 64/2TB and the nano screen for $94/month - with 3% off due to the Apple Card. I don't need the full 179 deduction, so the lease made sense...and I didn't have a 0% financing offer available.

This is very similar as in Canada, the $2250 one (14in 24GB 1TB M5 Pro) is at $3489.00, plus taxes it totals $4013.13. There’s no equivalent “Klarna” or “Apple Installment Plans”… the lowest I found was 6 months as 7.99%. Can vary between that to up to 30% (so just a basic credit card style financing, makes no business sense).

That’s an insane price to pay for the average person living in CAD salaries.
Add to it, that several of the same jobs pay more in the US even ignoring currency conversion itself… example, you make CAD 100K as a programmer, in the US you can make USD 150K for the same job. (Plus currency conversion as of this writing is 1USD = 1.39 CAD)
Live and buy them in an income tax exempted state, and the comparison gets so much worse.

The “we get ripped off” statement over here definitely doesn’t apply to Apple (but to the government, their insane taxes, their constant choking of the economy).

Even if the prices were to match currency conversion: there’s so much difference around purchasing power, how much it’s kept after each paycheck, and such a crazy high penalty to financing that I wouldn’t be surprise if the retail sales to individuals in Canada of anything that’s not a Neo or Air are such a tiny fraction of the total worldwide sales. Likely the similar in AUD.
