It makes sense if there are no sales on the A18 Pro model, or if they are not as frequent, or if the max sale price is $599 or $649.

Apple could surprise us, but I have a difficult time believing a $499 MacBook will exist, even if it’s a sale price.
You're comparing a sale price to a retail price, that doesn't make sense. If you wanted to be fair you would assume that Amazon will eventually put the A18 MacBook on sale for $499 at some point.

Something is definitely going on with Amazon and Apple device prices this year...

- MacBook Air is almost always on sale for $150 off, with this sale pushing it to $200
- Apple Watch Series 10 is almost always on sale for $100 off
- iPad Air is almost always on sale for $100 off
- iMac is almost always on sale for $100 off
- iPad is almost always on sale for $50

Is this Apple experimenting and trying to juice sales during a time of economic uncertainty/inflation? It is difficult to see these prices sticking when tariffs and other things kick in. I am guessing the cheap MacBook is an effort to be able to keep selling devices at these current Amazon prices when the retail price of these devices goes up later this year...

An A18 MacBook at $599 would still be $200 less than the base M4 MBA on sale at the current lowest-ever price. That’s enough to get my attention. And if the A18 machine is thinner and lighter than the MBA, I plan to add it to my kit - while keeping my 14-inch M4 Pro MacBook Pro.

They seem to be discounting these rather quickly. Is inventory piling up or they are doing it to take market share or ... ( another answer is incoming cheaper macbook after skimming comments.) Perhaps the answer is all of the above.

Best Buy has it for $799 too btw.

It's just marketing. Apple overprices. Retails have sales like this frequently. You think you're getting a deal.

Some very good prices. Just bought the 15" Air around two weeks back for the full price as there are no offers in my country.

Maybe next year they’ll stop crippling machines with 256gb storage too. Especially laptops that ya can’t easily slap an external on. I can’t even run photoshop on mine half the time without it saying the disc is full…and I don’t really store much at all in the internal

@admin: Is the tag "Vulnerabiltiies" a play on the word, or a legit typo? Brilliant if it's intentional. Just pointing it out if it wasn't.
