very very small increase in speed.

Not Actually, if its a Cortex A9 its quite a bit faster even tho its only 200 MHz faster clock you will notice a decent overall performance increase. If its a Dual Core A9 then you will really notice a difference in overall performance.

It depends to on how much ram they put in the iPad 2 as well. A dual Core A9 with 1 GB of ram will be a really fast iPad.

I hope your right man!!! I know I will be making a purchasing desision in the next 2 weeks based on tommorow and from what comes out about Tegra 3 tablets this fall.

If this is true then tomorrow will be truly exciting.
Exciting? NOTHING in there is surprising and the fact that they list bluetooth as a headline feature shows how little there is to base new marketing on. So it seems more like an overhyped refresh rather than Revolution 2.0. And even IF the thunderport is true then it's a feature that REQUIRES a minimum $1200 investment to use since the ONLY devices that have this are the Macbook Pros.

That said, I'm buying one.

Wrong! Apple advertised the 1ghz processor of the iPad when it was released. Am I mistaken? And if the new one is a single core 1.2 ghz..? Then I'll be upset. haha

Once again, clock speed is not everything

Dual core? Highly unlikely, as is 1GB of RAM. Expect 512mb and possibly the A9. Hate to say it, but I don't think the upgrades will be that spectacular. I hope I'm wrong though as I'm itching for an excuse to upgrade to the new one.

A dual core is not really unlikely Since its where everyone is going in the high end tablet market. Samsung has had a Dual Core A9 ready to go for months now, and since they built the A4 for Apple I would put my money on them doing a Dual Core A5 for them this time around.

1GB of ram is not out of the picture either because its something thats already in these dual core processors that we are seeing around. It's not like its really rare anymore. The next iPhone will most likely have 1 GB of ram too.

I'm really hoping for something surprising to get me to upgrade. I'm happy enough with my iPad and if it's just a speed bump and a camera, I'll wait for the 3.

I have a feeling that even if this screenshot is fake, iPad 2 will not be dual-core. It just doesn't make sense. All these rumors about how there will be an iPad 3 this fall, if that's true, don't you think they would save the dualcore chip till then? if they release it now the only update later would be the screen. I'm guessing tomorrow's iPad is bumped up to 1.2ghz or something along that. I hope I'm wrong though.

Since they will have the same ****** low-res screen for this one, they don't really need those crazy high dual core specs.

1.2 ghz cpu, 512 megs of ram, single core new GPU, etc... And then they can go really heavy in the fall with a dual/quad core CPU/GPU and a retina display and a gig of ram.

If those specs are as they are for the iPad 2, it sounds a lot more like iPad 1.5. Unless their big thing will be pushing iOS 4.3 and the cameras/facetime?

If they have something bigger planned for the fall, this feels more like a stopgap than anything.

On one hand I wish it was a larger upgrade... on the other my credit card balance is relieved.

Then again, there might be some unknown we don't know... guess we'll find out in about 11 hours.

The attaching device doesn't need a PCIe bus, just the computer doing the data processing (i.e. the new MBPs)
Actually, the peripheral does need an internal PCIe bus so that you can attach the output from the Thunderbolt chip to a PCI-to-whatever controller within the device that is external to the MacBook. However, that doesn't mean that you need a system-on-a-chip (SoC) that also includes PCIe.

In any case, I don't know why Apple would put Thunderbolt on the next iPad, how would you use it? Certainly not to attach a RAID or high-speed disk to the iPad and I doubt that it would help with syncing since the sync times are more of a function of the speed of the flash memory, not the interface between the PC and the iPad.

I think iPad 1.5 is EXACTLY the way to think about it. I've been suspecting this for some time now, that it would be a ****** iPad 1.5, or a big update with retina. As soon as we heard retina wasn't coming, I feared the worst.

Would be awesome if the NeXT iPad could hook up to the tv in a proper way with good resolution. So that I can play movies etc from it

Its fake, but no dual core makes absolute sense, any high end and plenty of low end tablet is going to be equiped with it within a couple months. Why would apple hold back ? The last couple of new devices apple always increased the CPU.

Ipad 3 quick release also is very un apple like. Dont see that happening

Thats a bigger increase then between iphone 1 and iphone 2 and 3gs to 4 , with that logic iphone 4 is actually iphone 2.25 .

Can't say I'd be upset, I'm likely to upgrade no matter what because of the work we do, but 20% bump in processor speed doesn't seem that impressive. There are a few times the current iPad has seemed sluggish to me and I'd really like to think we can move past that. Of course developers will then push the envelope and things will slow down again. Grr. :apple:

The A4 was manufactured in Samsung Semiconductor Foundries and not designed by Samsung.

Apple stood for the design internally, as they have bought several companies in the recent years with the knowledge needed (P.A. Semi and Intrinsity).

Motorola, LG, HP, RIM, Samsung all have very similar "****** low-res" resolutions on their upcoming tablets and use dual core specs. I could very well be wrong but it's hard to imagine Apple being behind significantly others in mobile processor spec judging from the history.

Do they even have single core A9's?

It also claims it's the exact same height and size as the first ipad.

Which considering the reports of a slightly smaller bezel, lighter weight, and a new body, it seems unlikely that it would be the exact same height.

Bezel will nt be smaller. Have you read review about the Xoom and how it can be difficult to hold? Apple makes the bezel a certain size for a reason. That reasoning will does not change
