More times than not, for me at least, Amazon is less expensive AND has free shipping. I also like being able to run 2 miles down the road to return anything I don't want to keep.
Guess they have pretty different prices in there, good for you :)
Yeah, easy returns are a big pro though, I'll surely miss that.

None of the radio stations you listen to have a trillion-song list that they play from.

I'd guess that your 100 favorite stations combined probably don't rotate through more than a few million songs.

Not suggesting that you sign up for Prime, just making an observation. I'll be checking it out, since I already pay for Prime.
A few million? I’m guessing active rotation is around 150 songs per channel with maybe another 100 for curiosity in specialized shows. That would make a hundred stations 25000 songs and that’s assuming there’s no overlap, which there is a lot of. Radio sucks nowadays.

With ads
At who-knows-what bitrate
Which plays a video along with the audio
And you cant download for offline listening
There are carbon copies of YouTube you can download music from
That could be the most dramatic, nonsensical statement that I have seen all day.
Amzon already owns 36% of Apple which will increase past 70% in the next decade, Apple are a billion dollar company, Amazon are a Trillion dollar company.

The threshold is $25 so unless you're crazy person that orders one thing at a time everyday you can easily get free shipping.

No, I can't. The cutoff is now $35 in Canada. It used to be $25 as well.

I ordered a special kind of salt yesterday, and it was $4.

I ordered swin fin a few days ago and it was $34.99

Not sure where you get those numbers. At the close of the market today, Amazon’s market capitalization was 939.8 billion dollars and Apple’s was 2.307 trillion dollars.

I’m firmly in the “this is a serious downgrade” camp with respect to Prime Music. Like all the others who had playlists they liked and used, I found to my dismay at bedtime last night that I couldn’t play what I was planning to play but only what whatever algorithm wanted to “shuffle” my way. After two tracks (neither of which was the one I selected to start with) I played an album I physically own and have loaded into iTunes/Music on my Mac and iPhone instead, and went to sleep contemplating cancelling my Prime membership for the first time, even though Prime Music is down the list a ways on those Prime services I use.

So there are no more Base Prime On Demand anymore? Everything is gated to Unlimited now?

That could be one way to describe it, yes.

I just tried to figure out where to vent directly at Amazon and found that the first eleven pages of the Prime Music customer discussion board (at least) is almost entirely people voicing their frustration at this “upgrade”. In there I also learned that there are two places one can leave direct feedback about this. The first this https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/features-and-services.html. No order number required.

The second is directly inside the Amazon Music app. Pick the gear icon in the upper right hand corner, then select ”help and feedback” then scroll to the bottom. I have no idea how well either of these mechanisms actually work but at least they give another place to vent that’s closer to direct contact with Amazon.

Agreed, I am willing to pay a little more knowing that returns are easy, try before you buy, subscriptions, wishlists, all these make my life easier. I prefer their video catalog over TV+ for now as well. I also feel customer service is much better as a Prime member.

Outstanding value, I’ll be checking this out! Meanwhile Apple are increasing their service prices whilst making 10 billion extra profit than last year in services…. But of course it’s all to do with inflation….

Outstanding value only if you never make your own playlists or listen to specific songs/albums. The 100 billion songs is basically the cover Amazon is using after gimping the old music app and turning it into a glorified radio station.

Too expensive especially if you live near an Amazon distribution center/warehouse where even non-Prime users get their stuff in 1-2 days. Prime still has an atrocious movie selection as well, arguably the worst of all services.
I think this could be true. What i experienced that IS true: The „Free for Prime Members“ movie selection is atrocious is, the documentaries selection very limited. If at least the quality went up with the membership price hike, I would consider renewing. But instead, the service looses value each time the rate goes up.

Amazon today announced an expansion of Amazon Music, which is now available almost in full to Amazon Prime subscribers. Amazon is providing Amazon Prime users with access to the full catalog of 100 million Amazon Music songs, up from the original two million songs that were available.

amazon-prime-music.jpg

Amazon Prime subscribers are not getting unlimited on-demand access to Amazon Music tracks, but the full catalog is available when using shuffle mode. Songs are ad-free, and users can create playlists that are tailored to personalized listening preferences. Shuffle play is available for any artist, album, or playlist.

The experience will be similar to other services like Pandora that offer radio station-based content rather than in-demand access to all songs. Amazon Prime's new feature will not directly compete with Apple Music because Apple Music does offer on-demand music, but it could cause customers who prefer radio stations and playlists to swap over.

Amazon is not charging Prime subscribers more for the Amazon Music access, and Prime continues to be priced at $14.99 per month or $139 per year.

Along with access to the full Amazon Music catalog, Amazon is offering Prime users access to popular ad-free podcasts and new Amazon Exclusive podcasts, with full information available on Amazon's blog post announcing the changes.

Go shuffle off into oblivion, Alexa. You won't play my three-day-long playlist in random order anymore. You might as well have deleted it. Thanks a lot, (expletive starting with a b that you won't say deleted). And now the big promotional message about how wonderful Amazon Music is before playing what I want, followed by crap I didn't ask to hear. Thank God the Plex skill still works and I can listen to my private collection. Take back your stupid upgrade.

Since I was disagreeing with someone who said "trillions" of songs, I'm not sure being off by a factor of ten of your guess really makes a difference.

I'd rather be conservative with "I'd guess that your 100 favorite stations combined probably don't rotate through more than a few million songs." and have people back me up with lower numbers, than put lower numbers and have people argue that it's going to be way more that that...
