At this point it's pretty obvious Amazon is gonna keep doing these deals and no one should have FOMO.
Maybe—but two additional things:

1) I can remember only once in the last couple of years where every single configuration (including color, and multiple memory and SSD size options) Amazon stocks is off by this amount. And those options are actually “in stock”, ready to arrive within a couple/few days. Maybe this isn’t going to remain “forever”. Or maybe it will as this is a result of the different chip packaging and better global inventory management. We’ll have to see. But it is nice to have very solid deals on more than two or three specific options.

2) Given the history of price discounts, particularly focusing on the base model, this is only $50 more that you could ever expect to get new—even on those Prime Day type of short-term deals with only a couple colors and one configuration. And because the base model is 512GB SSD and 16GB of ram, it probably is a model that the great majority of people should feel comfortable with. This is all relatively early in its release cycle. Maybe this is a result of the introduction of the Neo, too, which would result in some fewer number of people buying the Air.

So certainly no FOMO—but no reason to wait, either.

Apple to have now a middle model with the introduction of the Neo, the BTO (build to order) specs for the Mac Book Air can not crowd the Mac Book Pro bottom specs too closely. The lowest priced Mac spot is covered in Spades by the Neo.

I maxed my 15" M4 MacBook Air with 32GB of memory and 2TB SSD. Doing a side by side comparison of the same model M4 Air vs same model M5 Air, there is no compelling reason to change units and my experience with Apple's notoriously cheap trade in allowances are really an affront to intelligence.

I always load max memory and SSD at purchase now that all is soldered in to future proof the acquisition. My M1 Ultra Mac Studio (128GB ram and 8 TB SSD) was finally matched in performance numbers by my 16" M4 MacBook Pro Max (128GB memory and 8TB SSD).

Speed of the latest hardware mean a screen is refreshed is a quarter of an eye blink instead of half an eye blink. Not worth the many thousands of depreciation to switch. My Mac Studio in less than nine months went from an over $7,500 purchase price to an Apple trade-in value of $1,500. They resold the traded in units as refurbished for $6,000.

I went for the iPhone 17 Pro Max because for the first time, all three camera lenses were the same pixel capacity. I am totally uninterested in the fold-up model iPhone.

My Apple shares will continue just fine without my making future contributions to the Apple bottom line.

What's the best way to sell a used Mac?
I've been thinking of going from an M1 MacBook Pro to a 15" M5 Air. I only use it to surf the net but got the Pro for the better screen. Not sure I'd like the lesser screen on the Air.

Trade in on mine just just over $500. Trade in is very convenient as you don't have to deal with advertising, etc etc. FB marke place is the worst IMO.

If you’re using the Pro to watch movies and TV Shows… keep the Pro! Screen and speakers on an M1 Pro remain way way ahead of a M5 Air, imho.

I traded in at Apple Store. Did not even have box or charger, they said its ok and traded and I got my new M4 15 inch. Very easy process.

I like Swappa. Reasonable fees and a large market so I typically get much better pricing than Apple trade-in value.

Debating on snagging one of these deals on the 16/512 MacBook Air M5 to replace my M1 Air with the same specs. However, I’d really rather wait for the Air’s design refresh to happen before upgrading. Any ideas/opinions as to when we might see the next generation design for the MacBook Air?
