They gave me $30 for my Paperwhite Signature Edition. 😔You got me all excited, because I didn't realize Amazon would accept trade-ins on the Kindle. So I checked, and they're offering me $5 to trade in my current Paperwhite. 😞

I have an iPhone, iPad, MBP, MBA, ATV, Airpods, HomePod... hell, multiples of most of those. Safe to say that I'm in the cult. If Apple made an e-reader, it'd probaby be a day-1 purchase for me. But they don't, so I have a Kindle Paperwhite and it rules.Point blank, using the right tool for the job is the best hardware. For reading and more, Kindle and a few other brands are the right tool.
Mine is quite old, 10 years old apparently so that's probably why. Oh well, no big deal, it fulfills it's purpose as perfectly as it did at the time of purchase. They gave me $30 for my Paperwhite Signature Edition. 😔
The trade in value is low, but I think they also give you a 20% discount on the new devices with that trade in. So you’re getting a decent discount at least! You got me all excited, because I didn't realize Amazon would accept trade-ins on the Kindle. Ah, yes you're right. Thanks. They are offering 20% off + a $5 gift card; it's not clear unless you read the fine print or click on the offer. Maybe not for everyone?
I have the same offer, plus one for 20% off + $2 for an old chromecast.
oh well each to their ownI've tried several and currently own two. The device I reach for is my iPad.
Thanks, I hadn't seen that, and suddenly their laughable trade-in offer became much more interesting. Unfortunately, I see that the trade-in has to be done in advance, and I really don't want to be without my Kindle for the time it takes for it to be sent, them to assess it, issue the discount code, me place an order and it be delivered. Plus, I don't want to risk getting my Colorsoft and finding I don't like it when I've already traded-in my Paperwhite. They are offering 20% off + a $5 gift card; it's not clear unless you read the fine print or click on the offer. Sorry, what? Please tell me Amazon didn’t contact MR to have them reduce the price of both products by a penny.Update: This article was updated to provide exact pricing at Amazon's request. The prior version listed the Kindle Colorsoft's price as $280 instead of $279.99, and the Kindle Scribe's price as $400 instead of $399.99.
Tbh I don’t think there’s a great eBook reader on the market. The screen tech itself is decent, but the available products fall well short of what’s possible. They all feel a bit cobbled together with not great hardware, software, nor device ownership and usage experience. They are better than phones and tablets for reading books, however. As close to a real book as you can get in something that has a battery inside. You're absolutely right.
Mine's from 2015. It is still going strong but I’m tempted to replace is since:Anyone remember the Rocket eBook? I had one of those, it was a beast.
Does anyone actually upgrade Kindles? I have one from 2017 and sure the newer ones can turn pages slightly faster, but as long as my battery holds out (granted I have to charge it more frequently than I use to) I don't see any reason to ever replace it.
Let me tell you about corporate penny pinchers... 😅Sorry, what? Please tell me Amazon didn’t contact MR to have them reduce the price of both products by a penny.
This is the opposite. Corporate returned a penny!Let me tell you about corporate penny pinchers... 😅
Funny, I read two Wired articles about the new Kindles and they do the same rounding up to the whole dollar amount. Granted those are affiliate links directly to the item on Amazon so maybe Amazon doesn't care in that case.Sorry, what? Please tell me Amazon didn’t contact MR to have them reduce the price of both products by a penny.
Because $279.99 "feels" more like $270.00 than $280.00. Of course Amazon is the first to also remind you that "the price and availability of items at Amazon.com are subject to change" every time you view your cart. This is the opposite. Corporate returned a penny!
I placed my pre-order yesterday then heard about the trade in so placed another pre-order and traded in my paperwhite and it gave me until some date in December to trade it in. I thought I’d have to send it in before hand but I wasn’t bothered because I have a scribe, oasis and basic kindle I could have used in the meantime. £59 is still pretty decent if they don’t give me the £30 for my paperwhite. I do have an older Kindle lying around somewhere, but for the life of me can't remember which 'obvious' place I decided to put it.
[Edit to add:] Just found my old Kindle Voyage and went through the trade-in process - the gift card and 20% discount are both made available straight away, and it gives you 2 months to send in the trade-in, so plenty of time to weigh-up the Colorsoft. They did pre-authorise my credit card for the amount of the gift card, presumably so they can charge it back if the trade-in isn't sent. That £60 is more than I could have made selling my Voyage on eBay, if I’d ever got round to it.
I only got £30 for my standard 11th gen paperwhite but it is two years old. I suppose. I didn’t want to trade in my oasis or scribe and my basic I keep in my bag and take out with me. So the colour soft would logically take the place of my paperwhite I suppose. They gave me $30 for my Paperwhite Signature Edition. 😔
I wouldn’t read a comic on a kindle, even one with colour but for novels I can only read on a kindle. I start to get a headache if I read on my iPad and there are too many distractions.Meh, I've tried iPads over the years and keep going back to my e-ink kindle. It's my most-used and longest lived gadget, having used the same one since April 2014.
I'm curious about this new color model, but I don't really read anything with illustrations.
I'm a newspaper editor. About two years ago I received a phone call from a representative of a well-known investment company who complained that we had published the former name of the business in a "story" and told me to change it immediately. Even after I explained to her that the story snippet she was referring to was one written 30 years ago and was in our "Looking Back" column, she still demanded I change it. I deleted it instead and told her I would never mention the company in our newspaper ever again. She thanked me and hung up. The corporate world is insane.Sorry, what? Please tell me Amazon didn’t contact MR to have them reduce the price of both products by a penny.
I don't desire color for my purposes, but I know a lot of people who would like to read comic books or other illustrated book in color.I've watched reviews only over the past three years and yes it does appear to be worse for basic book reading than a standard monochromatic kindle or Kobo screen. For what I can see for now colour for book readers appears to be more of a sales gimmick than a blessing.
