In my experience, the A12 in the 2021 ATV4K2 is faster than the previous A10X in the 2017 ATV4K1 with the UI which was already pretty good, so I would imagine that not too much difference between the A12 and A15.

One thing that might make a difference is apps that use the GPU. The GPU of the A12 is actually not as good as the much older A10X, so I would think that the A15 would be a decent upgrade over the A12.

There have been some complaints on the forum about the A12 performance with some Apple Arcade games, which worked great with the A10X.

But, if just streaming, the A12 would probably be overkill for most. IIRC, even the A8 in the old ATV4 outperforms the current competitions' streaming boxes in terms of raw performance. Or, at least it was true in 2021.
got it. I think I'll hang on to my existing one for a while longer.

I do. Video consumes a lot of bandwidth. Using Ethernet reduces load on the WiFi network.
This. I have almost everything wired so I can literally max out download speeds for my ISP over wifi due to minimal load. (500mbps)

How many really use ethernet instead of wireless you think? All mine are connected wirelessly.
Would the “back haul” use of a mesh Eero or other mesh network device with Ethernet port improve speeds/performance of this Apple TV. I’m using an iMac connected to an Eero, that uses Wifi, and my speeds have improved.

OOS already, I guess lots of people.
And those people are wrong.
For 20$ you have Ethernet, double the storage and matter support.
Just for the matter support it’s worth it by far even if people will use this in 2 y.

I use Ethernet on two of my ATVs. I would guess that most don't.

I noticed that things load quicker with the Ethernet, and I think this has more to do with latency than download speeds.

There is an app called Coubicle TV, it basically plays 10 looped video memes. The playback automatically loops once, and moves on to the next "coub". You can also skip forward and back, or repeat one forever. Anyways, I noticed when I use the app on my ATVs that use Wifi, it takes longer for the new clips to load if I am browsing, skipping to one after next. This doesn't happen at all on the ATVs connected with Ethernet.

Probably not enough to get people to use Ethernet, but I do notice a difference.

For real time uses, like Steamlink or even AirPlaying, I think the difference is a lot more noticeable. If someone does a lot of real time tasks with their ATV, it might be worth looking into using ethernet.
The latency is often ignored as a problem, still WiFi quality depends on the distance, presence of obstacles, and version of WiFi used.

I like how Amazon has been discounting almost every Apple product, including new releases.

I just purchased one for my main TV and the other two former generations will be reassigned to bedrooms. There are some significant technical specification improvements and love that this will be the home hub for the thread network. Thread enabled devices will be able to rely on stronger Wi-Fi from other nearby thread devices.

The Veteran Apple Store has the ATV4K3 priced @$116 for the 64GB and $134 for the 128GB

I ordered the 128GB model.

This device should have been a “stick” form factor.
I think Goggle has stick shaped one if that is more aesthetically pleasing.

This seems more like they’re just using spare parts kind of thing. They didn’t add HD audio support and that’s been a big issue for my Plex server
