don't like the form factor.
old FireTV was better.

Agreed. Something big like that hanging from the back of my TV? And no Ethernet jack? I have zero issues when plugged into the network compared to when using the less reliable WIFI. Two strikes against it already.

This is their midrange offering. There will be a new fire tv with gigabit Ethernet and all the other bells and whistles out later this year.

Built in alexia speaker too apparently!

I like it. Less clutter, compact, no HDMI cable to lose. Eventually they'll be able to fit 4K HDR into a stick, but this is good for now.

You lose your HDMI cable often? Mine is connected to the TV and the FireTV and every time I check, it is still there.

You might have to worry about losing the power adapter though. Better buy a spare! :)

This is conjecture on your part or is there something in writing that states this (other than this post!)?

It was leaked alongside today’s release on the 11th :D

the apple tv 4k is pretty powerful.... i just haven't found a useful way to use its power yet ;)

i mean it should be just as fast as the ipad pro... but what to do with it?

Now if only they’d offer it at the same “introductory” price as the original Fire Stick when it was available for preorder a few years ago ($19.95 IIRC). I still have that model and it still works fine.

Maybe I am missing something but does Amazon let you play UV or VUDU, Netflix, Hulu? The price is good but if the content is just Amazon stuffvi feel its lacking.

I have a fire stick and a PS4. The stick offers WAY more. Showtime, Fox, NBC all not on the PS4.
I am sure it does. I don't have a fire stick, but it seems like it would be a lot better deal if you were just looking for streaming apps.

There is a amazon App Store already preinstalled. You can sideload the App Store aptitude which is virtually the google tv App Store to install android tv apps , You can sideload apk pure app which is virtually the same as the google play store to install almost every google app from the play store. You’ll need to install google framework as well for it to run some play store apps but overall sideloading these apps it lets you run almost every google app available. I use the directv tablet app for my kitchen to stream and it streams in hd

I have found it quite easy to re-purpose an old phone or iPad as a Chromecast remote. Technically speaking, a physical remote is really just an additional device with more limited capability.;):D
I should have said a "dedicated" remote instead of "physical", but I understand that many people would be okay with using their phone or an old device as a remote. I could picture this a good solution for a single person, college student, and maybe for a secondary TV device such as a bedroom TV.

I personally just like having a dedicated remote/device that I can leave in the room with the TV, that doesn't need to be recharge everyday/week, and that doesn't need to be unlocked to use. I would also like it if the remote can control the TV/receiver volume, turn the TV on and off, and have a D-pad on it.

But, then you will need a PS4, which I assume costs much more than an ATV4-5.
But it does much more.

I have both PS4 & Apple TV 4, Youtube & Netflix works better on the PS4 with cleaner UIs, the PS4 is simply a faster more capable device. There's a Plex app that I can't live without too...Not to mention gaming.

I keep the Apple TV for one thing: AirPlay.

I am sure that the PS4 has its place, but for just a streaming device, it would be a very expensive and bulky solution.

Now if the user was a gamer, or used physical media, I could picture this being a reasonable solution.

I'm XB1 and Chromecasts. Went XB1 for BR capabilities, and almost every TV in my house is Chromecast enabled right out of the box. Consoles are underrated but are just as cheap as a 64GB ATV4K.

Released on Oct 25th, no less !

Can you say "I'm gonna steal some of your (iPhone X) Thunder Mr. Cook" ?

It's a very smart move by Amazon ! ... extremely smart !

Only 2 GB of DRAM, that's the only negative I see in the specs page on amazon.

this is the right price for a device like this, how can apple justify their price point? In this day and age a PS4 basically does all of this already so no need for a separate device.
Um you’re paying for the pretty Apple logo buddy. lol

If someone says no Dolby Vision or no Atmos again i’ll Scream!

Yes it’s nice to have. But wow, there’s probably about 10 TVs in the world that have Dolby Vision instead of HDR10!

And how many people actually have an Atmos sound bar or speaker system? Both Sony and Samsung’s Atmos sound bars about £1200 and up. People scream about paying for a damn sonos playbase but yet Atmos everyone has now? Really?

The reason to buy an apple tv over anything else is the interface and the content, not device flexibility. And that’s ALWAYS been how apple operate. A mac is not as device flexible as a pc and never will be. That’s just apple life. I don’t know why anyone’s surprised.

Most TVs you buy now don’t need any boxes anyway as they all stream 4k out the box. It’s just that the UX is always crap and Apple’s is the best. That’s it.

I have an ATV and a PS4 and always use the ATV for everything but gaming and Amazon video. First, the PS4 Pro is $400, which is needed to get 4K HDR compatibility. Second, the ATV is basically instant on, whereas the PS4 takes a bit to boot up. Third, if you use an idevice or Mac to stream music the ATV with AirPlay is the way better option. Fourth, the ATV is generally easier to use. For example, if I'm searching by text field on the ATV a notification pops up nearly instantaneously on my iPhone allowing for much faster keyed entry. And anyone without a universal remote like the Harmony Elite I've got means they have to use the PS4 controller. While great for gaming, it's not exactly the remote of choice for just watching TV. And speaking of controllers, Sony won't let universal remotes turn on the PS4 so even though I have a Harmony, I still need to get my controller just to turn on the PS4. My ATV offers the superior streaming experience pretty much all the way around.

Yes. Not VUDU, but does have Flixster which is UV connected. Netflix and HULU, yes. Plus PLEX and VLC and others.

Many more options for a cheaper price than ATV, if you ask me. What isn't there you can sideload (like Kodi).

The ATV is a massive disappointment. It is just fundamentally broken. The problem with it not being able to automatically switch resolution is even more disastrous than I initially thought.

If I have my mode set to Dolby Vision and I run across a movie that's in 4K/HDR then it will either hang and not play at all or play that content in Dolby Vision. This tells me the box isn't actually streaming in proper HDR at all, much less 4k because I swear these streams are 1080p and my TV is just upscaling it. Now I know what the catch is to the free 4k/HDR upgrades. It's not delivering the proper streams at all.

Returning my ATV and will just use my ATV 4 until this garbage is fixed.

I wonder how the performance of this is. The FireStick was a POS. I don't mind a bigger device or paying a little more for a device so long as it responds when I try to get it to do something. I gave my FireStick away to a coworker who was thinking about buying one and after using it he quickly changed his mind.

Better interface, cheaper UHD prices, iTunes integration - vital for people with large iTune Movie Libraries and most of all free UHD Upgrades - more and better apps. Until, Google, Amazon, Vudu, etc provides free UHD upgrades the ATV, on paper is just a BETTER product. This was until Apple released a buggy piece of junk.
