I just wish they'd hurry up and ban it in the US - so they would stop doing all of the pro-Trump content filtering. (to be more specific - comments from leftists tend to be removed).

But I don't drink coffee so its of no use to me. Or ever since the coffee shortage, everybody switched to drinking tea. Nobody drinks coffee anymore. They should totally ban it.

Thats what some of y'all sound like. And I don't actually use or like tiktok either.

TikTok is like fire. It can do a lot of good for a lot of people, but it can also burn your house down if you're not careful. Be careful out there people.
As an IT pro I have now done three forensic exams on devices of suicided teen girls in hopes of giving parents some answers. All three were profoundly affected and manipulated by TT in no good way. I do not see TT as "fire" but more like white phosphorus.

I've seen it benefit many people.

Most recently, that dude who gives people free landscaping did so for this old woman in a dilapidated house, and viewers were so moved by her warm personality that they contributed hundreds of thousands of (maybe a million?) dollars toward her to improve her living condition.

I also saw a tearful thank you to the TikTok community by an unknown author who was seen on someone else's TikTok alone at his book store book-signing booth with nobody approaching him. That video went viral and the book immediately became an Amazon Best Seller.

I've seen countless occurrences like this on TikTok. It can be super enriching and business/community-building. I would be very sad to see it go.
I understand your point, but there was nothing inherently TikTokian about that campaign. It could have been done by any social media platform. When it comes to dedicated TT actions, I have never seen any good come of it at all. I have done three forensic exams of suicided teen girls electronics for the parents in hopes of giving them answers, and all I have ever seen is the terrible effect TT has - the algo just takes them down a black hole. I won't do another one just for my own mental health, but I saw enough.

China already does this. They don’t wait for western nations to greenlight such actions.
The US actions have no bearing on other nations. Maybe we give proof of concept, but legally we don't have any effect. UK arrests people for FB posts that complain about governmental actions. A few years ago, US social media would just cancel your accounts for that.

Pretty much this, the national security law prevents the sale. And would anyone be dumb enough to sell the secret playbook that generates billions? The U.S. bluff was already called in January. If you want to ban, fine. The rest of the world will still use it.
The algo that is applied in the US is not the same algo that gets applied in other nations. That is part of the problem. And why they will not disclose the algo to anyone. TikTok is evil.

Sure. Sell it for $1 to a poor person.
The junkie that lives at the 7-11 down the street from me has $1.

So tell me what experience he has to run it. Or anyone with $1.

I'd prefer it just shut down and I wish the EU had the balls to follow though. They did start the TT issue but then gave up.

Let me guess. Tik Tok is like 5G, it's making the frogs gay and it will ruin the world with their cancer causing, gay frog causing frequencies?

Yeah no. Nothing ridiculous like that

It is, quite plainly and by design, an addictive social manipulation tool
