Morning all,

hopefully I'm allowed to post this here.

Just noticed Amazon have launched there on version of music streaming. Anyone reckon this could be a threat for AM and Spotify?

Be interesting as I think its for prime members only....

Just noticed this myself. Just having a scan through. Noticed that there's some albums which aren't available on Apple Music.

Nice being "Free" for Prime members. Also haven't seen any greyed out or missing tracks as yet.

Seems like a lot of older albums are on there. Not very many new ones. Quite like Amazon's playlists through.

I would imagine mores going to be add over time. Other wise it'll get left behind.

Oddly as Markhort said it does have some albums that applemusic doesn't have such as some Kate Bush albums and some soundtracks but it's missing a lot of big artists like Michael Jackson etc, I also think it doesn't get new albums until they've been out for a month or so

It could be a threat, after a while if the music gets better then I would drop Apple Music as I am already a prime member

The Amazon Music app updated this morning I noticed. It's better, but not great.

Amazon music seems good to me. In fact I'm comparing the two during my AM trial period. I already get Amazon Music and Videos free with the Prime Membership plan. It is a great deal and save a ton of money.

Will decide sometime in Sept but it is close between the two! Their Video deal is awesome!!!!

Is this different than what Amazon has had for the past year?

No, they've just updated the app. And I think it's been around for even longer than that - a few years, maybe longer (I know I've been able to stream purchases for at least that long, but I'm pretty sure prime music has been in there for that long also). They've just been building up their streaming catalog slowly, as a free service to tempt/keep prime members.

Prime membership is $99 a year and well worth it. I tracked and saved my $99 in just 3 months on shipping charges and savings on their Prime pricing. The Video service is unreal and imo the Music is just gravy. They have a Music and Video app, and all are accessible on your computer.

Both apps also work great on iOS.

IMO it's great service for those who use it. My only complaint is that I can't download prime video for offline (aka airplane) viewing. Their CS is excellent also.

If prime music can bulk up there content I would happily swap. As mentioned above Prime itself is amazing value for goods and streaming film, episodes etc. just there content isn't there yet.

I wouldn't expect too much from them unless they really bulk up their catalog. This service has been in the US for quite some time and I rarely use it since it doesn't have any new music. Maybe it will be different there, but not much of a threat to spotify or AM here in the US.

As their goal is ultimately to sell stuff, I doubt they're going to put any more effort into building their catalog. Right now if something isn't streaming, the user can buy it in one click, and it automatically adds to their library and smart playlists, and downloads to their computer (if they have that set up). I think their idea is to let you stream older stuff, but get you to buy the newer stuff.

It works for me since I use an ipod shuffle when I work out, so I need to buy stuff anyway. But yeah, it's terrible for music discovery.

As someone in the UK with Prime I'm very happy Amazon have added music streaming. I have no intention of giving Apple £10 a month for music streaming, but even if there aren't quite as many new albums on Amazon it's just added value for Prime, which pays for itself for me anyway, regardless of the video and music streaming. To me it's a no-brainer. "threat?" lol, for me there's not even a decision to make.

Amazons music service has been around for AT LEAST a year now and hasn't made a dent. I think their point though was to just add another little something for their prime members... Not to actually be a huge contender. I remember trying it a year or so ago and remember their library being really really small in comparison to Spotify. No need to view them as a threat at all.
