Apple's 256GB 13-inch M2 MacBook Air is back down to its all-time low price of $699.99 with the use of an on-page coupon. This is $299 off the original price of the 2022 computer.

Shoppers should note that this is the older version of the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM. This week, Apple updated the entire MacBook Air lineup and it now starts with 16GB of RAM. We haven't yet tracked discounts on the 16GB models, but today's discount is still a great deal if you think 8GB of RAM is enough for your needs.

Note: You won't see the deal price until checkout.

Not a bad price for what you get, but not an amazing sale either. IMO, M1 models should be 499 and M2 models should be 599 now that Apple has officially nixed 8GB models from their own sales. They're still very capable machines for consumers at that price point, and they would move a ton of inventory to demographics they don't typically attract, which helps get people in their ecosystem long-term (i.e. their fastest growing profit centers).

Why don’t we ever gets these levels of discounts in the UK? I get the price difference based on exchange rates, sales tax, size of market. But we’re lucky ever to see more than £50 off an Apple device, and then it is fairly rare.

It has been this price for several days. Nice ad. Also, it's the 8gb model, so it's basically like buying it from Apple without the RAM upgrade now.

nothing new. drop it even lower and clear out the inventory of machines with too little ram
Clear out the inventory? There is a huge install base out there with 8 GB RAM Mac’s. If Apple had a long term vision or plan this situation would never have happened. Apple Silicon was built with AI in mind. Now there is a load of Macs with extremely powerful neural processing capability but insufficient RAM to run Apple Intelligence. An ironic situation.

Oliver Twist… please Sir, may I have a larger discount on my hobbled MacBook?

No

And so it is.

I’ve lived in US and UK and the consumer market is a different scale. Especially now out the EU.

I have a new "My iPad Pro can kick your Macbook's A$$" bumpersticker.

Very rare I have my mind blown, but the whole M4 thing has. I'm typing this on my antique M1 MBP.

Everyone harps on the 8GB of RAM, but it's honestly a great machine for general computing and then some. Never felt like the 8GB was a hindrance. Great battery life, completely fanless, and the thinnest laptop I've ever owned. $699 is a steal imo, especially when something like the iPad Air is only $100 less/iPad Pro is $999 new.

Apple open sourced there small model. It's quite powerful and will run in about 4gb of RAM. You can google "openELM" for details. We really need not guess about it. It is available from free and you can inspect it.

Yes, 16MB is better than 8GB but you'd be surprised at how little hardware openELM needs.

Part of me wants to pick up one of these. But I have both 13-inch and 11-inch M2 iPad Airs. I also have an M2 Max Mac Studio for heavy lifting. I don’t think I would ever use the MBA.

My MacBook Air M2 base from late 2022 has plummeted in value 😂

Oh well, at least I can still do what I need to do on it 😀

Not as fast as my MacBook Air from Spring 2020 plummeted in value in...Fall 2020.

It still works but that one still stings. I didn't yet know about the MacRumors Buyers' Guide, which I have pinned to my Start Page now.

Although, it probably still would have said to buy it since it's based solely on last released update.

I know what you mean and how you felt. But this happens all the time with technology. All anyone can do is buy what you need at the time. Even if you buy a device from Apple that gets updated the following month, their support in general is top tier. OS and technical support/repair will continue for many years to come.

So it’s a pity but I’ll stick with my MacBook Air M2 8 GB model as long as it keeps running and is useful to me, not what anyone else thinks 😀

Good deal as long as it doesn’t have issues with Apple Intelligence
It’s still a recent machine, I’d guess they will gradually drop features here and there. But for most consumers they will be able to do what they intended to do on it when they bought it.

You’re already sorted by the sound of it 😀

If you didn’t need it at its higher price, you don’t need it at its discounted price. Only buy if you were planning to buy it in any case.

Yeah, we’ll be lucky to get £50 off in 6 months time via Amazon, that’s why I just buy direct from Apple.

Amazon now: ”Apple 2022 MacBook Air laptop with M2 chip: 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD - £849” America, $699.

There are also other countries around the world where Apple devices are particularly expensive, even after considering exchange rates. But bear in mind in the US that sales tax is not included in the listed price.

First Apple was gaslighting us with “8GB RAM is enough”.

Now they will try to convince us their new software update (fancy name AI/intelligence) needs 16GB ram to work.

People who buys these models will be upset when Apple makes them obsolete in a matter of months.
