Not as fast as my MacBook Air from Spring 2020 plummeted in value in...Fall 2020.

It still works but that one still stings. I didn't yet know about the MacRumors Buyers' Guide, which I have pinned to my Start Page now.

Although, it probably still would have said to buy it since it's based solely on last released update.
I was in the same boat in 2020 and upgrading from my beloved 2015 rMBP 13 with 8GB RAM and bought an early-2020 MBP 13 with 16GB RAM. Despite a five year difference, performance and battery life of the 2020 model didn't feel significant over my 2015 MBP. I was pretty disappointed at the "upgrade" but kept it. I had no idea M1 was going to drop in November. I grew to despise my 2020 Intel MBP and took the hit and traded it in towards an M1 MBA with 16GB and no regrets. Apple Silicon was a huge leap in performance and battery life, plus the fanless M1 Air was so much quieter than the 2020 Intel MBP.

Before buying from amazon, read the subreddit r/amazonprime.

Never buy something over $15 in Amazon!
Just my two cents. I think Amazon is great. When I’ve bought from Amazon directly (ie fulfilled and sold by Amazon) or bought from a respected, known and trusted third party via Amazon, I’ve never had any issues.

I think most people’s bad experiences come from unscrupulous third party marketplace items.

Will turn molasses when Apple and app vendors weights in on AI. Cheap for a MBA, expensive for a brick.....

At this point it's basically unusable. I had the same experience with the "iPad don't call it 3" that was replaced in almost exactly the same time frame by the iPad 4 which they continued to sell for four years.

But by now I've learned to read the tea leaves well enough. And I doubt another major leap like that is coming any time soon.

Why don’t we ever gets these levels of discounts in the UK? I get the price difference based on exchange rates, sales tax, size of market. But we’re lucky ever to see more than £50 off an Apple device, and then it is fairly rare.
Heavy regulation and taxation, government thieves pocket the discount. The EU also just stole $20 billion from Apple, they’re great at taking and destroying but not building anything useful for citizens.

First Apple was gaslighting us with “8GB RAM is enough”.

Now they will try to convince us their new software update (fancy name AI/intelligence) needs 16GB ram to work.

People who buys these models will be upset when Apple makes them obsolete in a matter of months.
Apple Intelligence is compatible with this model on macOS 15.1

I bought AirPods Pro2, sold and dispatched by Amazon; I received cough syrup.

Still fighting the refund...

Good deal as long as it doesn’t have issues with Apple Intelligence
It won't have any issues with Apple Intelligence because the user will keep AI off. There is a reason Apple built it with a toggle. You can turn it off in a couple of clicks and free up the RAM. Or you can run AI, run one or two Apple applications, and squeeze by with 8gb of RAM. But it will be a juggling act along those lines with AI and 8gb of RAM.

Yeah, we’ll be lucky to get £50 off in 6 months time via Amazon, that’s why I just buy direct from Apple.

Amazon now: ”Apple 2022 MacBook Air laptop with M2 chip: 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD - £849” America, $699.

$699 is a clearance price not the regular price. Also remember that £180 of that £849 is VAT - so your real price is £679. Most places in the US have to add sales tax too, e.g. in California I have to pay 10% on top of retail price quoted.

I'm not saying that things aren't sometimes cheaper here, it is, but the delta isn't as big as it sometimes seems. Source: I am a Brit living in SoCal and make regular trips home.

Everyone harps on the 8GB of RAM, but it's honestly a great machine for general computing and then some. Never felt like the 8GB was a hindrance. Great battery life, completely fanless, and the thinnest laptop I've ever owned. $699 is a steal imo, especially when something like the iPad Air is only $100 less/iPad Pro is $999 new.
Yep - this is so tempting as a secondary laptop. Hell of a device for the money - I had one for a while and it's a really capable MacBook for doing emails, web, photos. My wife has an M1 Air and I'm tempted to upgrade her to this and sell the M1 Air.

Not sure how Amazon can sell this model laptop. According to so many in the other thread, 8gb isn’t sufficient for daily tasks and cruising the internet.

Back in March 2024 I picked up an M1 Macbook Air that Costco had on sale for $650. It's been a terrific device so far. I suggest anyone interested in this M2 MBA to keep an eye on Costco, Best Buy, Amazon, and Walmart to see if they undercut that $699 price.

This is so wrong! I use Final Cut Pro for 4K Multicam video editing on an M1 Air with 8GB. I'm not saying more RAM isn't better, it clearly is, but this is a very capable laptop for the general-purpose computing that most 'normal' people do. Most of my family does their computing on a phone. They only need a laptop to do things like book airline tickets, couch surf, vacation photos, etc. For the money, this is hard to beat.

My post is satire about those people who say 8gb is useless and you need 4000gb of RAM for daily tasks 😂 I agree, 8gb is very capable, but there’s no convincing these other people.

Yeah, if it was £699 here it’d definitely have been on my radar. That said, the last time I ordered a laptop from Amazon it was almost nicked by a delivery driver. I don’t buy anything expensive from Amazon any more and I’m quite content to purchase Apple stuff direct from Apple.

Fake article price is $100 off not $300
I’ve noticed this is becoming a trend with mac rumors lately. This is about the 3rd time I’ve clicked on a link to Amazon and the price doesn’t reflect the article price.

Fake post by you. Apparently you couldn't be bothered to notice there is a $199.01 couplon directly below the price that when applied brings the price to $699.99

Does the lack of RAM make it incompatible with Apple iIntelligence Pro, or simply make it run poorly? $699 seems about right for a premium brand product that won't run the current OS in 3-4 years.

Good price for MacBook. But with 16GB as the minimum now, expecting 8GB Macs to get fewer Apple Intelligence features in the future.
