Are videos included? That's my current biggest pain point: PhotoStream syncs the photos to my desktop iPhoto library automatically, but I still need to plug-in to my laptop to sync videos (and they take up a lot of phone storage, especially a limitation on my 16GB model)

I am not so sure. I just checked my storage space on Amazon and found the videos I just uploaded are counting against the storage space. I think the free part is only good for photo.

No matter what your choice you are at the mercy of the provider not to change the terms of service. I'd never rely on any of them for a sole long-term storage.

true, I was referring to an economic standpoint.

So is this photos AND VIDEOS from iOS devices, or just photos I presume?

Combined total of 127Gb for FREE!

I have too many options for completely free cloud storage that makes the 5Gb free iCloud max palatable. I use that only for iPhone backup and email storage. But I have taken advantage of many other cloud drive offers:

Box, 50 Gb
OneDrive, 50 Gb*
GoogleDrive, 15 Gb
Amazon cloud drive, 5 Gb
iCloud, 5 Gb
DropBox, 2 Gb

Not counted:
Flickr, 1 Tb†

*15 Gb + "Loyalty bonus," 10 Gb + "Camera roll bonus," 15 Gb
†Not a mountable "drive" so less flexible

OneDrive storage is now unlimited for Office 365 subscribers. I think of it as paying ~$63/year (subscription keycard price from Amazon) for unlimited cloud storage with the added bonuses of 5 desktop and 5 mobile licenses of Office.

for Free... you do understand Prime is at the cost of $99 a year... yes it includes other goodies. But to maintain your unlimited cloud storage you need to keep paying.

And yet Microsofts OneDrive offer 30GB of free Cloud Space what is your point?

Is it true that it supports RAW files as well?

BTW, OneDrive now gives UNLIMITED storage for ANYTHING if you're an office 365 user (around 60$ a year). Yep, even if you have 10tb, go for it.

The app says it automatically uploads photos when on Wifi?!? Do you have to open the app to have it do that? It can't just upload when not open correct?

-Kevin

You need to have "background app refresh" on for Amazon cloud photos AND it needs to be in the multitasking switcher for it to automatically upload. If not, it will upload pictures next time you open the app

The Amazon site says it supports .RAW files. Whether or not it means any raw format, I don't know, but since it displays the images I expect it would kick out any raw format it doesn't know and charge your quota.

Still don't understand why everyone rails on iCloud.
By far the best plug-n-play cloud service.
Reminds me of the unfounded hatred for Comcast.

VIDEOS ARE NOT INCLUDED!

According to Amazon, videos count against your allotted space & is not unlimited.

Until that changes, this is pretty worthless since videos make up like 80% of my storage requirements.

Will continue to use iCloud & Dropbox as backup.

Arg. Really? I was just about to get the app but that is too much of a PITA.

I guess I'll just keep sticking with the old fashioned way.

Dump the photos on the laptop once in a while.

Back up with laptop once in a while with external HD.

Keep the external HD separated from the laptop in case of fire/etc.

Pay nobody nothing.

:)

Can whole folders of photos be shared with other Prime users somewhat like Dropbox shared folders?

not that i've been able to figure out. i wrote an email to them suggesting just that! maybe they'll add it in if they get enough requests for it?

now I mostly agree with your first statement, but calling hatred for Comcast unfounded is simply unimaginable. Comcast is one of the US's largest corporations with almost complete control of the cable market in many areas of the country. They offer very poor customer service, and charge whatever they want for many services, often over-selling customers with services they don't need or want because somehow their "triple play" service is cheaper than their single service plans. They are basically the only contenders in the fight against net neutrality, with basically all other tech companies opposed to their wishes for internet fast-lanes, and have political pull with those in charge of governing it (Tom Wheeler). They wish to buy out the 2nd largest cable provider in the US, and while it is true their markets do not overlap, this would give them FAR too much negotiating power in regards to the networks, which in turn would have negative effects on the consumer and what little competition they do have. I would ask, what value does Comcast actually provide, other than simply being a necessary means of connecting to the internet?

30gb isn't unlimited either FYI. My point is that 5gb is gratis and Unlimited is $99 a year as part of prime.

Google Drive offers 15gb Free as well and unlimited gb when it comes to music storage (it's a 20,000 file limit or something like that). Go use one of the other services. They're free... why do we need redundant services?

Just cause other companies give away stuff doesn't mean Apple has to also. If they would have given 30gb you'd have still complained that it isn't unlimited.
Stop acting so entitled. It's embarrassing.

No one has privacy concerns with uploading their photos to Amazon?

I'm not even talking about nudes. People's faces, GPS data, times, the NSA is simply salivating.

All cloud storage is rental. It's basically the real estate of bits and bytes. Similar for software by subscription. A rental.

How's it a pain to use? You take a picture and it uploads automatically. It's available on every iOS device you have if you want.

And you delete it from your device and boom is gone from the cloud too. The point of cloud services for me is that it does not take up any local space also I wasn't just talking about photos. It's a mess as a whole. There isn't even an app

And Apple still offers only 5GB of iCloud storage when will Tim Cook learn.

I understand your sentiment. We all like to save money.

But do you ever wonder how all this "Unlimited" storage eventually turns a profit?

Look at Amazon's latest earnings report (http://www.geekwire.com/2014/amazon-posts-437-million-loss-worse-wall-street-feared/). And Google, Amazon, Samsung continue to drive this race to the bottom. Some of these companies will suffer eventually, no? (Similar to how many PC manufacturers did as prices were driven down further and further).

Like AT&T getting themselves into a mess offering "Unlimited" data plans. I just thinks it's a sloppy business model and nearly always comes back to bite companies in the ass.

Another one that annoyed me was Everpix, it was a great product, but they went with an aggressive free option and eventually they folded after failing to make enough money (http://www.theverge.com/2013/11/5/5...nd-death-inside-the-worlds-best-photo-startup).

Now I'm not saying Amazon are going to go bankrupt. But what is their long term plan? Google's way works as they make a lot of money via ads. Apple makes you pay for products and services and eschews ads. Amazon though surely can't just keep giving stuff away with Prime and hope eventually that will turn a profit?

With this and their music storage that allows 250,000 songs, I'm seriously thinking about switching to Amazon apps for photos and music.
