Still don't see how any rational, decent person can support Amazon given their scumbag company policies.....

I've had nothing but positive experiences, some so far and beyond what any other company has done for me its unreal, so not sure what you're so upset about and you can't even list any experiences or policies that you don't like.

Since the instant video app is already available on other devices, if Amazon does create their own box, will they take away the app from the Apple app store, etc? I don't think that makes sense. However if they come out with their own box, but leave the app on all the other devices, then what's the point of the box? Maybe it's me, but Amazon creating their own box does not seem to fit their current strategy. But maybe Jeff has some other plan that we don't know yet - something involving small remote helicopters maybe :)

what is the big deal, to undercut price of the atv and others. There are many people that own Roku boxes that can be easily persuaded to move to an amazon box. Hell they might give it away w a sub for amazon prime.

Earlier on, I bought a lot of Amazon on Demand content, mostly because I get so many gift codes that everything is free, however I am slowly buying that collection on the iTunes store instead. I was hoping that they'd make their desktop program compatible with OS X, but four years later, that still isn't the case.

I hope their set top is a success, but I have no desire to get one when my primary screen is my MacBook Pro.

What do you mean to suggest, that Apple "blocked" Amazon Prime from the ATV? Has it occurred to anyone here that Amazon might have made that call themselves?

But why would they do that, if they already have iOS apps? I mean, if a customer has a prime subscription, why wouldn't Amazon want them to have as much device freedom to watch that Prime content as they wish, wherever they wish. So that they can sell these new set top boxes?? That's not gonna get Apple TV owners to switch, when the Apple ecosystem is the big draw for these owners.

Screw Amazon

they banned my account with no warnings or notice and screwed over all my DIGITAL PURCHASES and bricked two kindles in the process. F them, even if you think your account would never get banned I want everyone to take note that they have the ability to mess you up real badly and what's worse screw over digital content that you supposedly OWN over issues that have no relationship to the digital purchases. Other than that, yeah, great idea, the market is screaming for yet another set top streaming media box.

And XBMC. I want to be able to do local streaming without transcoding. Oh just because its from Amazon let Netflix put their app on it as well. I need to have ALL streaming applications available from a single box or I am not buying it. I refuse to have multiple boxes for this streaming stuff when they are all basically the same hardware.

This. This is why I stick with my Boxee Box, quirks and all. It just mounts a directory and plays the files in it. It has a Netflix client too == all I need.

Am I right in assuming that you got banned for repeated returns? That's just about the only way I've heard people have been banned and lost access to everything on their account.

I find it very satisfying. It's just as good as Netflix IMO and better than hulu plus.

What scumbag policies?

Lifetime banning of people's accounts over petty issues with ZERO prior warning? The ban includes previously purchased Digital Content because the morons use ONE Uniformed account for EVERYTHING and ALL services.

I'm not against them banning accounts, I freely admit that I return a lot of stuff, but I also purchased a HELL of a lot more, what I object to is the idea that they did it without providing any kind of warning or grace period and that it f'ed over all my digital content AND bricked 2 Kindles. If they are going to exercise this policy then they damn well should have it clearly spelled out on their site and give people warnings as well.

i'm sure you had nothing to do with it

Parsing this, they did have cause for reasons not tied to digital purchases. Guess that's the cost of dealing with digital purchases (ie, I'm sure the same thing could happen with Google or Apple).

I enjoy Amazon Prime streaming to my ATV occasionally through Airplay ... there is occasionally unique content (eg, Veronica Mars). I had a Roku 2 and felt it was very clunky to use.

since it will run Android I'm sure it will quickly be rooted and that will enable all other apps to be loaded. this could turn into a killer box... can't wait!

Apple has done nothing with Apple TV since its debut. It's only been few extra channels and a little better hardware. That's it! I think they are just taking it for granted.

Well that is a bummer.

Probably ruins any chance now of an Amazon Instant Video App for AppleTV.

Why? Amazon supports it's other services on iOS even though it competes w/ Apple w/ Kindle. Based on history, it seems only Apple is holding back an Amazon video app. If ATV is ever opened to devs I'd expect an Amazon video app of some functionality.

Also why is competition a bummer? Personally I'm very happy Amazon competes w/ Apple especially on music. Amazon frequently has better pricing.

Huh? The first ATV looks & functions nothing like gen 2 or 3. And Apple is very clear that it's a hobby product. Not sure where your expectations come from.

I still cannot understand why Apple TV has not made it possible to search or jump to titles based on the first letter via the OS/easy remote.

I know you can do it via the phone and/or bluetooth keyboard. But come on. I have over 700 movies in my library and scrolling is ridiculous.

I've made tons of returns and havent been banned. He probably did something like claimed items were never delivered. Jk, Im only assuming.

For those who follow the ATV more than I....

Is Apple considered one of the front runners in this market?

I have the ATV v3, Roku 2, Roku 3. As far as content the ATV has expanded, but has very little when compared to Roku and other competitors. However it has one advantage....airplay which I use for my iPad, Macs, HTC One android phone.

If not for Airplay would the ATV even be considered by most of us?

Nah you just a scumbag customer no wonder they are not giving you the experience you need, Amazon Prime #1 vs. Netflix crappy streaming HD.

----------

Apple if you can not get Amazon Prime on Apple TV then why not just have your own streaming service through iTunes like Netflix or Amazon Prime? I already pay $25 dollars for iTunes Match willing to pay more for streaming movies and TV Shows.

If streaming Airplay was 100% with no quality loss in streaming sure it is perfect but since it is wireless streaming to Apple TV it is not perfect connection loss still exist there is no Airport Express supporting 802.11ac even the latest Apple TV does not support 802.11aac until than Airplay needs still improvement.

"a company that makes no profit" misconstrues the reality quite a bit. Amazon invests a lot in new markets with subsidizing customers (i.e. Kindle Books until Apple stopped that) and by buying companies and technologies.
Other companies sit on piles of cash without doing much with it, business wise Amazons plan seems more ambitious and promising right now.

T

Not quite accurate. Capital expenditures typically come out of cash or debt, but "subsidizing customers" comes out of operational cash flows. The former will not have an impact on P&L, but the latter does. Amazon has been essentially unprofitable (or marginally profitable) in terms of earnings for the last couple of years. What they have done over that time is nearly double their top line (revenues). The expectations are that these higher revenues will be converted to sharply higher earnings in the near future.

Also Charter Communications customers are still waiting for HBO Go on Apple TV can not get it because supposedly Charter Communications says it is Apple TVs fault, yeah I know:rolleyes:

Samsung, Google, Intel, Microsoft, etc. all spend more on R&D/infrastructure than Amazon does. Of course they're in different industries that have higher margins. One of my problems win Amazon (or at least the people who support it's valuation) is this idea that they could be raking in the profits if they wanted to and that when the time comes they can just flip a switch and the profits will start flowing. Thing is Amazon supporters have been saying this for years. At what point does someone call their bluff and say "show me the profits"?

That will have to happen. I'm not sure I buy into the scenario, but they certainly have driven the top line dramatically higher. If they hadn't accomplished that much, I'd be a lot more skeptical.

I hope you are getting Amazon Prime for their shipping and not for their streaming. The Amazon Prime shipping can be good but the Amazon Prime free streaming catalog is very poor.

i am not currently a prime customer, but if i could get prime video on my appletv i would sign up right away. prime shipping or prime video by themselves aren't worth it to me. but combine them, and it's much more appealing. and i consider airplay from the iOS app a workaround, not a solution.

I realize Apple is trying to embrace an all-digital model that doesn't involve shiny discs, but it would be nice if they'd let ATV software be built into Blu Ray players. It'd be the best of both worlds.

But then, Apple only wants to give us the best when it coincides with what they want to give us anyway.
